Hi all,
I harvested lots of hybrid strep seed this morning from two pods off of one plant. Same one as last week. What is the variety name you ask? Like I said in another thread, when I recently re-potted some of my streps, I managed to not label the pots. So, now we must wait for bloom. There are buds coming up, so I will know shortly the name of the seedparent and will let you know. I will say it is a good larger growing one with a nice gloss to the leaves as shown in the photo growing in it's 6" pot.
I have 2 packets of seed available for whoever wants to give it a try. I will gladly send them to the first two people to respond on this forum.

Streptocarpus Seed Offer
May I pretty please???
MsC
My pleasure, MsC!
I'd love to grow them!
Ya know what... I take that back... Let someone else who doesn't have many Streps, or doesn't have Strep seeds already sown try them. :o)
Since Rain has changed her mind and has decided to let someone else try their hand at growing the strep seed, the offer is still open.

Thanks Snow.. .I'll do my best with em!
I'd be glad to either share my packet w someone or you can split it and send it on... I know there are much more capable hands at growing from seed than me, but I keep trying...eventually I will find a good way for me.
I just love streps and can't give up.
MsC
Thanks Snow..I'll be looking forward to giving them a good try...
Rain is a sweetie 4 sure!

Oh good golly- I keep telling myself no new plants this year...it's just not working. May I try?
Snow: That is one Beautiful plant!
I have some seeds of Daniel X Self that I got from Jannich awhile back that I sowed. I sowed half in LFS and the other half in potting mix with lots of perlite. The container with the potting medium has three or four teeny sprouts, but so far nothing in the LFS. I sowed the seeds on April 10th and am surprised that not much has happened. Are Streps real slow to germinate and grow?
Hope y'all who received the seeds from Snow's above plant will keep us posted on how they do for you! I love Strep's but the few I've gotten in trades don't seem to be growing real fast. I have two of them in a South facing window and the other two under grow lights.
Well if you have any left I would like to try I don't think that I ever have tried this but if it is to late that is fine

I received seed from Jan fromthe same batch of strep 'Daniel x self'... I sowed mine on 04/25/07, and had sprouts on 05/06/07. I have quite a few babies now.
You can see the whole thread on my progress with the seeds here... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/720309/

Wow Karen! Your's are Awesome! You sure got lots of little babies from your seeds. I am new to Streptocarpus Plants and this is the first time I tried sowing seeds .... I must not have done something right, but at least I have a couple of little babies. I hope they continue to grow. Not sure why only a couple came up, but the outcome of yours is teriffic! Great Growin!
Hi cjolene,
I will be more than happy to send them to you. Please dmail your address:)
Dimmer - You are in luck. I harvested another seed pod today from another strep which is also a larger grower. That plant has 6 more pods nearing readiness. Dmail your address and I will send them right out to you.
Okay, that should do it for now. More to follow soon....
Good luck everyone on your seed projects, Lin and VA_Wild_Rose

Trust me, it was probably blind luck on my part! LOL! I did get some careful tutoring from Keyring before I started everything. From theses batches will come my first streps, first chiritas and would have been my first sinningia (had Jan not been so gracious to share a couple grown 'Rio das Pedras' plants) because those seeds, curiously, never sprouted.
A first for me, but a very rewarding experience! Raingazer, bmedel and myself are now trying our hands at the Sinn. Leucotricha from seed Keyring gave us. See their progress here... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/736716/
Good luck to Dimmer, cjolene, and Raingazer on your strep seeds!

Jannich was so sweet to send me Sinningia Rio das pedras plants as well, since the seeds did not germinate for me! She has also sent me a Kohleria 'Dark Walnut' and Chirita 'Tamiana' .... I have them all potted up in glass jars!
Such wonderful Gardening Friends here in this Most Lovely Garden!
I agree, Lin!
