Amount of new growth/ increase or decrease rooting time?

Yuma, AZ

Does it take longer for a cutting to root if it has only been out of dormancy for a week compared to a month or three? Does the amount of new green growth have anything to do with the time it takes to root. More fresh green growth, faster rooting? Anyone have any Idea?

From my personal experience, I have had more difficulty when there has been a lot of green growth. I have had more success rooting cuttings from harder wood.

I am not talking abouth the green growth that occurs after I started the rooting process. I am talking about recieving a cutting with mostly shinny green growth before I start to root it.

I don't know whether the length of time from dormancy matters to the rooting process of a cutting, but as long as there is active growth, it should not matter how long it has been out of dormancy. New green growth tells you that the cutting is no longer dormant so that is good to know. I find that green cuttings root faster than semi-hardwood or hardwood, and I don't have any problems with rot during the warmest months, which are summer and fall for me. In the cooler months of winter and spring, I use a heat mat to ensure roots. Some cuttings just root faster than others.
