Help With Pistachio Orchard

Stonyford, CA

I have a 230 Pistachio trees in California that I need a lot of help with. Books are hard to find on just Pistachio. What I need to know is just about everything.
My concerns right now are pest control and what to use. Will Neem Oil work for the pest that are prone to Pistachio, like the little green worms I have seem?
Thanks

UC Davis has an informational web site for pistachio pest management

Your county extension agent should also be able to point you in the right direction and answer questions on what to use for conventional and organic pest management for an orchard as large as yours. The Colusa County Extension Office's home page is here http://cecolusa.ucdavis.edu/

You also may want to join the North American Fruit Explorer's mailing list (http://www.nafex.org). There are many orchard owners on that list who can give practical advise.

You're welcome.

If UC is taking quite some time in answering questions, NAFEX's mailing list would probably be a better resource for you since your are in a different arena with the number of trees you have compared to the one or two trees most people have.

It takes a few days for them to approve new people joining their mailing group, but the people on there are probably one of the best resources for fruit and nut growing that you are going to find in one place.

I'm rather surprised that your county extension takes so long to answer your questions and that it is hard in California to find information on pistachio and orchard management. Here in Washington, WSU and the county agents always happy to offer information on any question one may have on orchard care.

Try also the California Pistachio Commission:

Thank You! Just what I needed.
