Everyone....please do a rain dance today!!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

I am so tired of watering. It is so dry the grass is crunching under foot. They are predicting rain today.I sure hope we get it. The next chance of rain isn't until next week sometime. I thought if we could all do a little rain dance we'd be sure to get some of those raindrops on our gardens.

Every year I say I'm not going to plant up so many containers and every year I seem to add more. I have to fill all my water jugs and watering cans and either walk or drive the RTV around to give them all a drink. I at least got smart and bought a whole bunch of hose (over 150 feet) and strung it out to the veggie garden where I leave it with the occilating sprinkler head on it. I just have to turn it on. My son the plumber hooked me up with another outside hose spigot so I can have more hose on the other side of the house to drag around and water my perennial bed out front and fill the grandbaby's pool up with.

So how is everyone's garden looking? Is everyone holding up in the heat? What-cha-doin?? Any plans for the 4th? Anyone plant a patriotic garden with red, white and blue flowers? Going to the fireworks? In AuGres, our fireworks is on Sunday evening I think. We usually take the pontoon boat out and watch them from the Saginaw Bay. It's sooooooooo pretty!!

I'll have to get out and take a picture of the garden to share. We've been pulling onions and yellow squash and we have green tomatoes on the vines and collards are ready to eat. I have to keep spraying Liquid Fence on everything or the deer or rabbits chew on my flowers. I was hoeing in the veggie garden one morning and looked up and on the other side of the fence about 6 foot out was a deer. He was watching me. I'm sure he was wondering how the heck I got inside that 8 foot fence. :)

Well, chat back everyone if you have the time. If you're by AuGres stop in to visit.

I have been doing a rain dance for a week. Guess I am not doing it right.
I do not have a vegetable garden, but have pretty hardy flowers in shady areas. I water some using a pitcher pump and a big can or a hose and the lake water. The woods is very dry and hot and full of nasty biting bugs. The poor animals come to the river, lake or near houses where there are fewer bugs and of course lovely lillies to eat.
We live, as you do, already in a vacation spot and need to go anywhere for the fourth. But this year, for the first time in years, we are heading out on a friends boat for 4 days on lake Michigan. I am very excited.

We did get rain. I had just finished mowing when it started. I'm thankful for what we got but it wasn't nearly enough. It rained pretty good for only about ten minutes. Better than nothing I guess.

Keep up those rain dances! Until it rains again I'll keep watering in the early mornings.

Brenda............We left this morning for Muskegon to visit the grandkids for a few days.....It was hot when we left, and I watered everything good before we left. I have been watering twice a day also....

Somehow the rabbits got into my fenced in veggie garden, and ate 3 of my brocolli plants, even thought I had Liquid Fence on them.......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......cought him in the act and it ran out and cought the opening where it came in, and sealed that up. Got lots of green tomotoes also...everything seems to be growing early this year for me.

We will be back to AuGres Friday evening.......

We got about 47 drops of rain here. We watered again last night, hoping that would spurn on a shower during the night. Didn't work. Maybe we need to all wash our cars?

Keep on dancing! I got caught in a nice shower up in Port Sanilac in the afternoon. Then drove back to Lexington where I work and found a little shower there. However halfway inbetween, where I live, there was nothing! The clouds parted and went right around us! Lawn is brown and dormant - at least we don't have to mow. I'm watering my greenhouse twice a day and the gardens every morning dragging around a very long hose. The sandy soil we have here doesn't hold moisture very long. We need a serious Pow Wow going here with everyone dancing. LOL

My DH finally go our new garden area all worked up and ready to plant yesterday! It was too wet to till last month! It's about 1/4 acre. I already planted all my veggies in areas I eventually want herbs and perennials. But still have a lot of Tomato, pepper and eggplants left over from my greenhouse sales. I want to get some of them in the ground rather than the compost pile for some late season veggies. Wonder if I have time to plant some short season sweet corn? And if dill will germinate in the heat for a late crop.

Have to go water now...keep those feet dancing...
Jeane
