CLOSED: Aristolochia Gibertii, for Polydamus Butterfly larvae

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Again, the Aristolochia vines are the only larvae food for the Polydamus butterflies. This is not the 12' flower, rather smaller at about 4". Seeds well. I'd suggest having a couple or more of the Aristolochia vines in ones yard as they can be eaten down quite drastically if one is lucky enough to have a huge crop of larvae at one time!

No exchange required.

May I be the first to request for seeds? Would you accept any thing at all in return? I've pink Poppies seeds to share.

Lily thanks for offering. I really dont need any seeds right now. I have an abundance of fresh seeds from the garden and dont want them to go to waste, so am happy to pass them on. But thanks for offering.

Please dont forget to write on the back of the SASE envelope addressed to me, the id's of the seeds you'd like to have. Makes it much easier for me to cope this end and they are posted out immediately!

Cheers,

DonnaB thats super! Were they Cassia Alata seeds for the butterflies? Hope no more hurricanes come our way this season, but they are predicting so many.........Time to get rid of my large pots 'cause I'm tired of lugging them to safety! Hope all is well with you.

yes they are host plant for the Sulphurs

did you send me the Watsonii as well?? Only had one survive from it and it is doing very well also. Have it in a Hanging basket with A. Peruvian since they both don't get to big

Just went outside to get some more Cassia A seeds. Thats it till the new flowers seed. (too prolifically....the garden is filled with seedlings which i have to ....pull up!) I love the sulphurs flitting from one shrub to the next. Only thing is, the *(^%$ ants get the larvae almost 100% of the time as I seldom see them at a mature size. I'm pretty excited as I have one giant swallowtain larvae on my key lime right now. Really does look like bird dew!
I saw a really neat idea at Fairchild Tropical Garden for the Aristolochia vines. around a tall palm they had attached chicken wire up to about 8 feet to provide the vines with the ability to climb the palm. It was quite a sight to behold with the Polydamus butterflies vying to lay eggs on the leaves! And the larvae were huge!
I dont think the Watsonii was from me, as I dont have any in the garden.
