Look what I found on my driveway. There were lots of small feathers used in the nest.

Hummer nest
Wow Thats a beautiful nest!!
Oh, my - doesn't that just steal your heart when you see its size?
That doesn't match the descrition of a Ruby Throated nest in my book which is the usual one we have nesting in the Eastern U.S. What species of hummers do you have in Ga.? Resin;what do you say. Jane31
Yes, beautiful nest!
Agree, not a hummer nest. My guess would be a finch (American Goldfinch perhaps the most likely).

All nests are indeed wonderful.I always marvel at their construction and the materials used so ingeniously. Jane31
Leave it to the beautiful Goldfinch to make such a lovely comfy nest!
I sure didn't realize Goldfinches made such small nests!!! There is so much I keep learning on this forum (hope I can remember some of it!).
Hummer Nest??? Maybe not. We do have goldfinches too. And they are beautiful. It was an intricately woven nest. I will save it,
Elaine
We have Ruby Throats....
RT Hummers use lichen and spider webs for most of the construction with a bit of syliva for glueing it all together.
This is one I gathered last year, but unfortunately I didn't get it before the weather had damaged it. But, you can still see some of the detail and that is my little finger for size reference.
I have looked all around the areas where I *know* there are nests this year, but haven't spotted any. Just lots of busy little fighter pilots zipping around.
Just beautiful. I would love to find a nest, but we have so many trees that I don't think it will happen.. and I guess putting off pressure washing the house is a good thing. Spiders,,,,
Thanks for sharing,
Elaine
