Toby was diagnosed with UTI two weeks ago. Upon taking him to the vet, his urine was all red blood cells, and a couple red casts. The Vet was worried about his kidneys also, and did xrays.
There were no signs of stones or crystals. She decided to put him on two weeks of antibiotics, 5 days of bup. for pain. and changed his diet to Science Diet C/D...both hard and soft.
Today I took Toby back for his recheck....and it is the same story. Urine full of red cells, no white. At this point the Vet thinks he has Idiopathic Feline Cystitus.
This is his 3rd bout of UTI since we have had him. He was abandoned at a farm when he was about 8 months old so we don't know his past history. He is neutered, and the most loving sweetheart of all the cats (don't tell the others). He is slim, about 9 1/2 lbs.
Although he has been sleeping quite a bit, he is a cat, however does get very active with the others during the day.
The Vet is recommending two "herbal type" treatments right now. One is UT Strength, and the other is a joint medication that has glucosamine in it. Also she is recommending to switch him to a all soft food diet with the CD.
We have talked about stress being an issue, along with other causes.
Has anyone else had experience with this.
She did say it is very painful, and I don't want the boy to live like this and am feeling guilty.
Thanks much,
Debbie & Toby
