My sick plumie

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Clare and all that followed my crisis with the frost damaged plumie...I am happy to let you all know that it's got one teeny tiny little leaf coming on it now. I'm so grateful to Clare for helping me save it. Next will be pics of the blooms!

Excellent! That's great news, Louise. I can't wait to see your pictures;-)

Clare, forgot to tell you that your competition is catching up with you! I'm now up to 36 plumies, all in pots and 11 of them are straight from Hawaii! Of course I'll never have the 500 or so you have but I'll be running a close second! Thanks for getting me into this wonderful newfound flower. I'm loving every new leaf on every new plumie. The sick one is also giving me another leaf. When they bloom I will post pictures.

Hi Louise! Well, you're not my competition -- you're my buddy! LOL! I know what you mean though. I am actually trying to reduce my collection by selling off most of my duplicates and by parting with the ones that are not my absolute favorites. For each one that blooms, I ask myself if it is one of my favorites, and if it is not, it goes on my for-sale list. I have had a few people over to my house that live within driving distance that have bought some of my five-gallons and one-gallons, and there is a nursery nearby that is interested in buying from me. I actually only have about 175 different cultivars and some duplicates of those, and the rest are seedlings. For example, somehow I ended up with 5 Kauka Wilders, 5 Cancun Pinks, and 5 Dwarf Singapore Pinks! I would guess that I have about 200 seedlings, but I forget now. Seedlings take up so much room and take years and years to bloom. One really needs a lot of space to grow seedlings. It takes forever to water, and I have to water a lot during the summer. Someday, I will have a smaller collection that will be less work to take care of, but for now, I am enjoying them too, and I am glad you are too! Hugs,

Ya'll are too funny!!! I'll stick by my 10 or so until I finally get a peachy orangey one i.e. Kimo...heck, I'd be happy if the other 9 of the 10 showed me some blooms this year....

Chantell, I think that is why we collectors end up with hundreds: just to make sure that we get to see a lot of blooms! I think I figured out that only 25% of my collection is showing blooms at this time. I hope that percentage will increase now that summer and heat are officially here.

Wow, I feel extreamly (sp?) lucky that around 60% of my plumies have inflo's with blooms or inflo's started; only the smallest and newest of the cuttings have no blooms. I only have around 12 varieties and only a few duplicate cuttings (20 plants in all) but I am in it for the blooms after all so I am really pleased with them this season. My husband thinks I have way too many so you guys make me feel much more sane. (LOL) Now I can reasonably ask for a few more at the next plumeria show and sale comming up in August :-}

Happy blooming all!!!

My husband knows I'm insane, I have over 500 irises and now all these plumies, everytime I get another iris or plumie, it's always..."now where you gonna put that?" I say, "don't worry honey, I know where it's going!"
