Did you find what you needed about seeds starting for herbs? I have started tons (including thyme and chamomile) and might have a few hints on some items if you need help.
I also saw that you are still looking for herbs for your herb garden. Email me and let me know what you are looking for. I may have some you could use.
Dk
thanks lilth!
dk I am wanting to grow different herbs for teas and medicimal purposes mainly. I have chamomile sees and applemint. Any medicimal herbs you have would be great.

i should have some ginger mint seeds and agastache rugosa (korean mint - liquorice scented) seeds soon, they are flowering at the mo. if you are interested in medicinal herbs you may want to try this site http://www.botanical.com . it has on-line guides and good articles too.

LOL the best way to spread chamomile that I found was to put chamomile tea bags (used) on the compost heap. They were everywhere the following year!
Both chamomile and thyme seeds are tiny. You may be covering them too much. I just pat mine in with my hand. I believe they need light to germinate.
jfc, How do you use your applemint for medicinal purposes?
I have some but just enjoy the fragrance. I would like to be able to put it to good use. I have plenty and it really takes off if not kept in check.
I make a tea with my applemint and it seems to work for me as a great diuretic.
I had trouble starting herbs this year (my first try) too.
I eventually bought plants, but would still like to start from seed just for the experience. I did find out certain herbs need to be planted the fall before, or stratified before planting. Unfortuately not all the packages let you know what is needed. Does anyone know one all inclusive site that would give this type of info.?
jcf, How do you make tea with applemint? Do you mix leaves with regular tea leaves or use the mint leaves only? Doris
I pick the leaves and some times use them fresh and brew but i also dry them and store for future use. I use them by themselves. I use my auto drip coffee mmaker. I put some leaves in the pot. Poutr water into the top and turn it on. I let it steep for a few inutes and strain as i pour it into my cup. I like toa dd a little creamer and sweetner.
