blossom drop

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

One of my young brugs just dropped the only three 1" pods it had. Can anyone tell me the possible problem?

Many times it is because we let our brugs get a little too dry. I suppose it could happen because of mites too, but don't hold me to that one. I've had seedlings that have dropped all the buds when they reached 4 or 5 inches long and when examined, it was because they were deformed. One of them set buds three or four times and not one of them ever stayed on the brug long enough to open.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes new cuttings will not hold buds their first year. The second year - after it is more established and has a strong set of roots - they will begin to bloom normally.

It could just be that yours isn't established enough to hold the blooms (which, is a good thing - if it held them and bloomed, it could weaken your plant and make it more succeptible to disease or pests).

Heat can do it...or over watering...or the combination of both.

One of my 'Goldenes Kornett' trees got more than a little bit dry. I was using it to test a new soil composition. It dried out too fast. Tha result was that the tree lost all its buds and leaves. In less than a week it was stripped of everything, but the other reasons mentioned are also good facts.
