Heres one I think is a real beauty called "Love Story"
I got it from HVH as a four incher.
Love Story
Super pretty! I just love this cultivar and purchased a 2 gallon from HVH about a month ago. I anxiously awaited its first bloom, but that and the following bloom both came out small and malformed :-( The plant has a lot of buds right now, so I'm gonna see what happens - so far the buds look small again. I've never had this happen on any plant before, and I can't imagine what the problem is. Bums me out though :-(
Glad yours is doing better than mine!
I wonder if you have mites or thrips, Amarantha.
So pretty, Dave! So cheerful! What store is HVH?
Kell,
HVH is Hidden Valley Hibiscus out of California.

Wow!!
THANKS Dave. Dave, do you know of any California shows. I would love to go to one.
Kell, HVH does an open house the last Saturday of each month during spring/summer. The next one is this coming Saturday (June 30th), in Fallbrook (about 1.5 hours from my house, and about an hour or a little less from San Diego). I went to the one in May, but I have a feeling I'm not going to get to go this weekend due to a family obligation :-( I really wanted to though so I could ask Charles about the Love Story problem. If you think you can go to any of them, let me know so we can meet up!!
I don't think I have mites or thrips, so I'm really puzzled. I googled the problem when it first bloomed, and came up with both of those. I checked and there are absolutely no bugs that I can see. Also, it's the only hibiscus with this problem; it's planted right next to a Palm Springs, and its buds are good...
Oh I wish I lived in So Ca. Too far for me. I am heading that way for a week in September for a begonia convention. Maybe I could get Lali to go there too. Is there one in September?? We could all go and go nuts together. LOL
I hope you find the cause. No fair you get that far and then the bud duds.
Yes there should be one in September on the last Saturday of the month. It would be a blast to meet up with you guys!! Hopefully by September I'll back to work and doing my infusions at home too, which should make my health a little less precarious :-)
