CLOSED: Would you like Amaryllis belladonna (Naked Ladies) bulbs?

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I have 6 Amaryllis belladonna bulbs (http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2377/) that I bought too quickly thinking they were Lycoris squamigera (http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/517/). From what I have read, I will have little luck with them here -- they need a west coast environment. I hate to see them go to waste. If you are interested in a trade, let me know. I have a zone 7a/6b largely-shady garden -- I'd love anything that looks tropical but is hardy. Of course, I'd love Lycoris squamigera! Or if no trades work out, I'd be happy to mail them for postage (I think they'd take a flat rate box).

i would love them...but i have nothing to offer....and i should cause i am in the same zone as you and my front yard is entirely shade....but i am such a new gardener that i still am very bare...;i am sure you will find someone else that has something for your lovely amaryliss....if not i would love them for postage

Beautiful Amaryllis ....

I would love to have a couple of those bulbs but I don't have any shade loving plants to trade. My yard is mostly total sun all day. If you don't find any takers for a trade, can you give me an idea what the cost of the flat rate box is?

Thanks,

Lin

I would love one or two also, but have nothing to trade. I could send postage.

Thanks
Lisa

Happy,

I have some cannas, elephant ears, gingers, Ti plants (mine overwintered, can't beleive it), and yucca pups. Some of those the hardiness would ned to be checked.

And then, not exactly tropical, but look pretty tropical (i think, anyway mixed in)-salvia 'black and blue', callas anneke and z. aethopica, pink chelone, purple oxalis, and some giant green leaved thing I can't seem to identify. All thses are growing in quite a bit of shade. I can get more detailed in dmail if interested, thanks!

I can't focus on this for a day or 2 -- apologies -- but I should note that everything I read says these won't do well in east cost climates -- see http://www.brentandbeckysbulbs.com/spring/productview/index.php?sku=04-0201. And if you put them in containers, they need huge containers (plus there is the hardiness issue). Has anyone had success with them in our climates?

I understand, I'm willing to take a risk if you ever feel like it, and will research hardiness of the plants I have if you need. Thanks

That link says zones 8, 9, 10 and has Florida all in purple so I think they would be fine here. I really would love to try them. I have a few other Amaryllis and they seem to be happy here. Please consider me.

Thanks

I have about 12-15 Amaryllis Bulbs and they come back every year here in zone 9a ... maybe this particular variety doesn't do well this far south? I googled Floridata and found some info:

And also some info on the UF website for any Floridians who are interested in the Amaryllis:
