I'm back.

Thought we had seen the last of him, but just at sun set he came wandering in out of the trees that skirt our yard.

Awesome - wonder what he thought of your frog!!

Klamath River, CA

Nothing much seems to bother him. I almost got him to eat out of my hand.

Is there someone around to take a picture of him eating out of your hand? That would be incredible to see!!!

Klamath River, CA

If I can get him to do it I'll do my best to get a pic.

They can peck very hard, and aren't averse to a bit of protein! ;-)

This one has two calls. One that sounds like a woman yelling help, the other sounds like an air horn. Both of them are loud.

I've heard they're great guard dogs! Not so much for the attacking as the warning.

Great photos Adelbertcat. His coloring is so vivid. I love cobalt blue!

When my daughter was pregnant with my grandson Ben, there were a pair of peacocks living at the house next door.

The night Ben was born, when he let out his first cry, it sounded just like a peacock. I wasn't the only one that thought so. My sister Connie was there, and she said the same thing. Thank Goodness he's out grown that cry! HAHAHA

heyitsmejudy. I think your're thinking of Guinea Hens. They make a racket over any thing.

Lawrenceville, GA

Nope! This from Wikipedia: Peafowl have been called "urban guard dogs" because their distinctive cries can act as a warning of approaching people. Several British stately homes keep peafowl in the grounds.
We had people when I was growing up in Missouri get one for their farm because they had a long driveway and the peacock would warn them someone was driving up it.

(I also know the difference between a bluebird and a blue jay. Oh wait. Different thread!!!!!)

Hey judy...Your right about Peacocks making like guards....Guinea hens are worse.

I'll stick with my squirrel chasin' cocker spaniel and my cat hatin' chow chow!

The old traditional guard is geese - they'll not only honk, but also attack an intruder. Seem to remember it was one of the Roman Emperors who used them.
