I want to plant an annual on top of my large bulb beds for interest and to discourage weeds, if possible, as the bark mulch doesn't do it. Is there anything that I can seed or plant on top of the bulbs now that they're dormant? The area is full sun.

Candy,
Did you plant anything over your bulb area yet? I tell you what I do is plant some perinnials that come up in late spring or early summer so as not to compete. You can also plant almost any annual seed that you like in the ground in the spring and they should grow as the bulbs are finished blooming. Just what I do.
Thanks for the advice. I haven't planted anything on top of the bulbs. I've come to the conclusion that I have to plant around the bulb area things that will bloom at different times, but not actually plant on top of the bulbs. I would like something there though like maybe Alyssum that would be gone next spring but just cover that area after the bulbs are finished.
These folks have some interesting seeds, lots of annuals https://www.wildseedfarms.com/wildflowerSeeds/shopIndividualSpecies.html and you can buy them in many different sized packs. For summer I like coreopsis, but there are many to choose from. Not all their seeds will grow in upstate NY so check the maps they provide, there is a little picture of the US right below the flower photo, if it is grey your ok. Click on the photo for details.
