african violet

I was given an african violet that is a large plant with many large plants growing off it. should i try removing these plants or is it ok to leave it as is? thank you for any help vicki

jll, I think it's your preference. If you like it multi-crowned, than by all means keep it that way. Is your plant blooming? Some say standard violets don't bloom as well when multi-crowned. I don't know as I have never grown one that way. Have always grown mine with a single crown which is technically the correct way to grow them.

Trailing violets are multi-crowned and they seem to bloom just fine. So, bottom line is, if you like it the way it is, enjoy. If you would prefer single crowned plants, then you would obviously need to take the plant apart and plant the single crowns separately.

thank you. There are five plants in this pot. The smallest is five in. across. the whole plant is coverd in blooms. I think i well separate after the blooms. i wish i had a camera it is pretty. vicki

Your plant sounds lovely. You'll have to get yourself a camera one of these days.
