Wow! Nice job! This year I have finally started mixing potted tropicals in with perennials for effect. It's amazing too what can be done with some of the less-common exotic *looking* perennials we can easily grow. :)

It does look lovely... lush and inviting...
imagine the tropical look with a brown vynil linner... with some imprinting of an understory around the edges.. perhaps a gator on a log there... scarey,,, Gordon

Schriever, LA(Zone 9a)

I LOVE what you've done! All I need is float and a fruity drink with one of those little umbrellas in it. I'll be right over!

Oceanside, CA(Zone 10b)

you have a wonderful yard.
can you grow palms of any kind there? Washintonia varieties, Mexican Fans would give you some tropicalness. Of course, I am afterall, "fond of fronds." =-)

I've been told I've got a pretty nice tropical yard too!

Very Nice!! If I were in zone 10 I would say it would be less challenging.
I can't grow the palms but over winter them in the house and greenhouse.. I have 23 different palms now...most of them are still small...I started most of them from seed within the past year...
I do have Mecican Fans, and Washington Fans..The largest one I have is about 7.5'~Chinese Fan Palm...

Philadelphia, PA(Zone 6b)

Prettylady24,
Growing palm trees from seed, tell me!, tell me! how,
I would like to try. I tried growing a banana tree
from seeds, with no success.
I can make this my Fall and Winter project.

Very Nice, Peggy! I would have never known that garden was in Ky! Looks like it could be in my neighborhood right here in Florida!

Great Job!

Calhoun, KY(Zone 6b)

missg I wrap them in a paper towel and wet them and squeeze most of the water out...I put them in a small ziplock bag and let them do their thing... Every one I did germinated...
sometimes it takes a long while for them to germinate...
I do the banana the same way...I have many different bananas now.

Prettylady24,
Did you place the ziplock bag in the sun
or under a grow light, or put it on a heat mat.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Peggy thanks for the great instructions. I have some cardboard palm seeds to try that way. Have you started any of these?

Calhoun, KY(Zone 6b)

bwilliams...I have a few hardy palms and one or two of the bananas that are hardy here...
I also have 5 different hardy hibiscus
Lots of castor beans just reseed themselfves and then I pull many of the weaker ones out...I top them so they can bush out more...
Donna I don't have the cardboard palm.....have never tried it...
I will take a pic of some of the little ones I started today...Here is a pic of a few of them...

Great job. I am so impressed with all your work in zone 6.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Peggy did you nick the banana seeds before you put them in the ziplock?

Calhoun, KY(Zone 6b)

I should have said girl that I used a rat tail file on the banana and the palm.. My bad...
I haven't had time to be on here.... I had many of my families....families here from many states for the week in the house and lots of tents and campers.... Had an awesome time.... Lots of cooking over the fire pit, horseshoes, washers, swiming, drink a few brews, pickin' and grinning around the campfirem, karoke...lots of great fireworks. Will get back soon with more pics of the garden rooms in back of the pool are...
