Today is the annual hibiscus show at:
Harry P. Leu Gardens, in Orlando.
Hope to see some of you there.
Central Florida Hibiscus Show
Oh SHOOT, I wish I was there. I hope you are taking lots of pictures for us to see!
cat I hope yu took pics?? :-)
Kyle
I took 150 pics. Will post ones I hadn't seen, after work tomorrow. And, yes, there is a "6th dimension"
I didn't buy it, but I will put it below.
I bought 11 plants. Two of the same.
So, here goes.....
Cat, ok spill it..what kinda costs are these at the shows?
$20 each.
All are woody.
All are ready to go into the ground.
Most are between 2-3 feet, at this point
PS.....
That was $220 I didn't really have.
Oh well, at least my backyard will be gorgeous, LOL
WOW Cat. THANKS! So far so beautiful. I would be happy with any of them except maybe White Diamonds. I thought that one just seemed out of sorts.
I bet it was so hard to walk out without more even though you bought so many. You lucky duck! Some are just really different looking. And the minis are new to me.
Well Virage 2 has my name written all over it. Gosh, what a gaud gal.
Hi Kell,
Virage 2 is by Tom Miller.
Hope that helps some.
He does sell retail, but I can't figure out what the name
of his company is :(
Cat, those are some gorgeous plants! I'm glad I don't live near you, I don't think I would have been able to stop at 11, I would have had to buy them all!
Oh, and yesterday, I had ordered 3 more from HVH....
I have to stop!
My mortgage is due!!!
The people there were so nice, they showed me how to pinch correctly and how to do proper cuttings.
Now, I can have even more, yaaaaaaaaaay!
LOL Cat. What a great day you had for sure. I would just love to go to a show and sale!!!
Wow and more Wow!!!! I can't decide which one I like the best out of all the lovelies you bought!
I'm with ecrane, I don't know if I would have been able to stop - my Visa card would have probably just melted on the spot, lol ;-)
One of these days, when I win the big lotto, I'm going to jet around the country and go to all of these hibiscus shows. I sure wish we had them around here :-)
karen
Gosh, they are all really pretty, but Wahini is awesome. I would be in big trouble at a show if I was even allowed to go with the credit card in hand.
Thank God I don't use credit cards! I would go bankrupt, for sure! It is in the 90's here, and tomorrow morning, bright and early, I will be up, transplanting 22 more hibs into the ground! My entire fenced yard will be nothing but hibiscus borders!
That will be awesome to look at. Hope you will post pictures of your complete hibiscus borders.....mine are all in pots because of overwintering. Do hibiscus dig up easily and survive the trauma?
Yes, so far. Out of the 27 I've already transplanted, I've ony had 1 fatality, and one that is a little bit weakened.
It seems that the hibs go thru more trauma coming from greenhouse to outdoors, than actual transplanting.
With the newest hibs, I always have to keep them in partial shade for a few days before introducing them to Florida sun.
The transplants are used to the sun, and their new homes, because they were living above ground, in the areas they were going to be planted in.
That's good to know. Thanks. Now, to learn how to get cuttings to root.
Oh my, eye candy at it's best. You are lucky. Wish I was there. I especially like #14, Tasman Devil and Timeless Treasure. I like them all actually now that I view them again, lol.
Wow, 22 plantings, I could not even imagine. My soil is hard to dig into, that I'd be struggling to make one good hole. Enjoy and I'll await pictures of your Hibiscus border.
Gardenlaybug,
In November, the West Palm Beach Chapter will be having a Hibiscus show at Mount Gardens.
Don't know where in South Florida you live, but would love to meet you there.
Also, don't know if you know this, but Winn Soldani, from Fancy Hibiscus, lives in Pompano. I bought my original 11 hibs from him.
