Can human lotions help dogs with hot spots?

My lab is showing signs of hot spots on his back and has begun trying to scratch the spots with his teeth so much that now his fur is thinning. The vet won't be open until Monday. Just wondering if anyone knows of a home remedy until I can get him to the vet. Would any of the products at Walmart work?
