First time growing rasberries, planted them last year next to blackberries and boysenberries. All three look very hardy and really took off this year. There is plenty of fruit on the blackberries and the boysenberries but my rasberries look funny. The second year growth is everywhere...7' high, full of clusters, but the clusters feel dry to the touch. All the leaves are green and lush, so I don't think under watering is the problem. Could the second year growth be draining the main plant too much? Is it OK to trim them all back now and hope for a fall harvest???? Or is it just to darn hot out here in the Inland Empire? It was about 90 today and it's been windy as well?????? Please help....I want to make jam for X-mas!!!!!!!!!!!!
