Ugly Bloom

Where's an Ugly Bloom contest when you need one? LOL This is L'Amour gone amuck! You can see the bloom on the top of this one is also going to do something funky.

What happened??? Heat? Messenger? That is so bizarre!

LOL! Sorry Mary, I had to laugh. She looks like she came into contact with some pretty high temps. That's too bad. I like L'Amour. I hope the next blooms will be better for you.

It was heat. I should move it to the back where there's shade now that it's warming up. Her blooms earlier were nice, but she's feeling the pain now that it's gotten hot. Lucky I have had a lot of blooms in the back yard, so I can laugh at the sad looking ones.

I had some wrinkled ends on a DrSuess and I just broke the end of the bud off so the bloom could emerge normally and it worked great! The full sun is burning stuff up fast.. I've got a few with crispy leaves.... I hate to see it, but there is no where to move them.

Mary, what happened to the bloom when it opened? Joan

Felicia...why mention messenger...had you been talking before or knew Mary was a messenger user.. or was there some point you were trying to make.. sorry..I'm not up on your politics on this issue.. so the thought was lost here
Seems to me it's a matter of focus in the plant. did you start feeding it better .. more water..spraying with messenger.. thus making it healthy somehow.. It's almost like it was starting to flower.. and then started growing big and strong .. and the weak flower stayed encapsulated.. [ finally fighting it's way out ] ..as the strong bud caseing was geared to making a better bud first.. flowers thought it was about time.. and was going to go anyway..
But I juist make up things... and I should understand it in others..

I've a few L' Amour crosses growing out as seedlings now.. sitting at about 18" tall.. I'll not see a flower for some time now..Gordon

Mary, did you try to polinate a Brug with a Datura *LOL*

The bloomed stayed and died as it was. I had this kind of thing happen on other plants where the calyx was exposed to a lot of heat. Sometimes you can peel the funny white burnt part and the bloom will come out normal. I had too much to do to bother with trying that. LOL Sometimes they're on their own, especially if I've had a killer week at work. Poor abused darlings!

No Messenger. Miracle grow with the lower middle number, Whitney Farms potting soil, and worm castings on top.

Gordon, the reason I mentioned Messenger is because of something that happened in the Morning Glory forum. A bud was about to open, and someone sprayed Messenger on it and when it bloomed, it was deformed. It's not certain as to whether or not it was coincidence. I use Messenger myself, and really like the stuff, but if I have buds, I make sure not to spray them -- just in case.
