I have been trying to get the cottage look in my beds this year, The beds are new and i had very few plants in them and just one or two here and there. I have got a lot planted so far but i still see a lot of ground. My Question is now i have MG vines taken over a few spots in the beds and i'm not sure if its a good thing or bad LOL. I love the way its filling in the bare spots where the weeds where growing just as fast as the flowers. But with my plants still small will it choke them out in time?
what to do
The big problem with morning glories, especially if this is wild, is that they reseed prolifically. Where you have one, you will soon have 20. They might not 'choke' your other plants, but they may cover them up quickly and rob them of sunlight. You can do this, but will have to be out there every single day pulling them away from your plants. And pulling up the seedlings.
Pull them out and be patient.
My garden looks like yours looks. I keep my vision in front of me at all times, or I will spend my life transplanting. This summer, I'm spending time pulling up morning glory vines that I let climb up my front porch last year. (Of course, my quack grass is evil sent from hell. There's no comparison.)
From that one little vine, I have MG vines EVERYWHERE. They LOVE climbing roses. In fact, they'll climb anything that's not moving parallel to the ground. Dig them up and imagine how lovely it will look in two years. It took God seven days to get Eden to grow, and we're not going to do any better than that! :)
Blessings on your garden,
Elf
