What better way to make an otherwise crappy day great? Why, plants in the mail of course!!! I got three packages in the mail today, and all of them were plants! Yay!!!
First package was from Jan (jannich)! Thank you Jan, for a lovely episcia 'Grey Lady', and three sinningia 'Rio das Pedras'. The Rios are so tiny! OMG, no wonder someone told you they were difficult to ship!
The second shipment was an eBay purchase from PJ's Violets... an absolutely gorgeous episcia 'Chocolate Velour'. This was another one of my "I'VE GOTTA HAVE IT!" purchases... but look at it and you'll see why!
Third package was also much anticipated, but alas, is not gessies. Two plumerias... one rooted, one not. But you will have to see them over on the Plumie forum (I probably won't post there 'til the weekend.)
I got busy when I got home from work, and potted everything up right away. So here's a shot of all the gessies...
Lookie what I got!!!
Jan, the 'Rios' made the trip OK... one did appear to have broken off the tuber, but it still had roots attached to it. The other two just seemed to have leaves broken off, but otherwise in good shape. The two with the most breakage went into wine glasses (who mentioned that idea?), and the third, which looked the best, went into a little ginger jar I picked up at Wal-Mart.
The first one... the one that broke off the tuber...
I'm a happy girl tonight...
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Karen
(Thank you Jan!)
Wow...they are beauties. Jan must have been super careful packing those little sinningias. I don't blame you one bit for bidding on that Chocolate velour, wonderful foliage on that one, and a huge plant for an e-bay purchase.
Thanks! And them thar stolons are comin' off as soon as the mama recovers from the shipping! Gonna get my money's worth!
They are beautiful Va_Wild _Rose. Awesome ebay purchase.
Patti
Karen, those all look wonderful!! Those Sinningias are much tougher than they look, so I know they'll be just fine. And the Episcias are beautiful! Aren't they so much fun with those stolons they constantly put out? They're forever providing more and more plants. What a happy mail day for you! :o)
I'm sorry to hear you had "an otherwise crappy day," but your new plants are gorgeous! I potted all three of the 'Kiwi' stolons you gave me into one pot, and I'm planning to put them in a little hanging basket... I might even mix them together with a couple others I've got rooting now... trying something new! :-)
Grey Lady and Chocolate Velour are both Gorgeous and I love that Sinningia too. I got seeds for the Sinningia 'Rio Das Pedras' from someone here on DG, I think it was Amy .... forgive me for not remembering. I sowed them in my 10 gal terrarium, but they have never sprouted .... I'm still hoping! I wrote down the date I sowed them (it was only a couple of weeks ago) and now can't find where I wrote it!! I am getting so bad the older I get .... very absentminded! I remember to write stuff down and then misplace where I put the note that I wrote! ******%%%%*******!!! If I get to the point where I'm out in my car and can't find my way home then I guess someone better get concerned! :) I can see me out on a "Plant" shopping spree and not finding my way home! Hey! if any of y'all just happen to see a ditzy blonde planting in your yard, you'll know it's me!
Anyway .... Love all your "Treasures" VA_Wild_Rose!
Now, I'm off to plant, in my own yard ..... for now! :)
Lin, I'd guess your seeds were from Jan or Ki. I don't have Rio. But, the important thing is...If you're gonna get lost and plant in someone else's yard, please head to TN and get lost here, cause I need tons of help! LOL
hee hee .... Amy - I love Southeast Tennessee! Would love if I could convince hubby to retire up there someday! But, since I've been in Florida 40 years, someone would have to teach me to garden all over again in a different climate with different "dirt". LOL. I remember about 15 years ago being in North Georgia visiting my youngest sister and "helping" her plant things in her yard! That Ga red clay is impossible! I don't know how anyone can garden in areas with that hard stuff. I couldn't even budge it .... luckily my baby sister is a pretty strong gal and was used to it - it's just hard trying to tell some folks you have to amend the soil ... you just can't plant directly into hard red clay! That was not enjoyable gardening to me. We have nothing but sand in our area of Florida, which is easy to dig and very easy to amend the soil with compost and good stuff.
That red clay is awful! I'll take our rocks over that stuff anyday! LOL At least here, you hit a rock with the shovel, and by the time you manage to get the rock out, you don't have to dig anymore. Usually I have to fill in the hole rather than dig it out further.
Critter... that Kee-wee will make a beautiful hanging basket! That's actually a pretty good idea for episcias... has anyone else ever done this? Do you have photos? I would love to see what that looks like.
I may have to try that myself... Hmmmm...
i was so busy talking and showing i almost missed your goodies today....................I am still afraid to go to ebay...........too implusive, but that Chocolate Velour is a fine plant
Beautiful treasures you have there... don't ya just love PJ's plants! They have some of the best plants on ebay and are always so well packed...
I almost find it hard to shop with anyone else...
Choclate Velour is scrumptious it reminds me of Chocolate mousse
Gail you gotta try one of PJ's episcias they are to die for!!!
MsC
They really are! They are 3-4 times larger than any other episcias on eBay. And they are great to communicate with. I am pleased with my purchase.
Yes, they are larger & about the same price as some of those dinky darned stolons other places sell. I just love there plants & dealing with them too.
I only wished they had a buy it now feature on more plants...the plants are certainly worth it....but I guess you can only grow so many things at one time...
You did great!

I actually wrote him about that, because I was having such a hard time winning one of the 'Choc. Velour'. He said he tried the BIN about a year ago, but he was having better luck with the bidding. He told me to be patient and the novelty would wear off and I would get one. LOL! Well, I couldn't quite wait until the novelty wore off (Choc. Velour his most popular episcia)... but I did get it, so I guess that's all that matters.
Does anyone have the link to PJ's e-bay site? I've never bought anything on e-bay, hubby has and also has sold a few things over the years. I think I might like to take a peek at PJ's plants!
Here ya go Lin...

Karen
Karen, let me first say that your new plants are beautiful! I love how you use the wine glasses as a pot. I'll have to use that idea myself. I've wine glasses that are just sitting and never used.
Secondly, why did you have to post that link to PJ's store? WHY? WHY? WHY? LOL I'm in so much trouble now.
GH
lol...I would be in trouble too, but luckily he doesn't ship to Canada
((((GRIN!!!))))
I told ya!
And guess what???? I just got in another package today! Hehe!!!!
It'll have to be a surprise as to what it is until tonight when I can post a photo!
Uh oh .... I'm in trouble now .... I went to PJ's site and I want one of (almost) everything I saw!
Oh I'm late again.LOL.Sorry!
Your welcome Karen, I'm glad one of the Sinn.made it ok. I haven't figured out how to ship them without breaking. But they should be ok.There pretty strong little plants.Your new episcia is stunning!
I'm not going to look at that website. No,No, No.LOL....
What a sweetie!
I think I need to get my little sinningea out of its plastic cup and put it right down into the wine glass like that... how did you do yours? Gravel? Spaghnum pocket to hold a bit of potting mix?
Yep.. the LFS pocket holding a bit of soiless mix.
Lovely Karen! There growing great for you.
Lin,Yours will be blooming in no time.
