Santa Barbara, CA

This baby comes in white, pink, salmon and orange. This one is over 4' tall.
There isn't much stock on these right now and only one place to get them.
Should be more avalible next year. This is my third year growing this B.

Gee Mike, a 4 ft plant would sure make a lot of cuttings. LOL

I am not even laughing out loud on this one.................too pretty not to share cuttings...........dynamite plant..... What is the name of it???? It looks a lot like my 'Ginny' and/or Begonia 'fushiodes"

Guess I should have said B. 'Cracker Jack' is a tuberous begonia and won't do well in HOT areas. One of the parents is boliviensis from the Andes mountains. I have a tuberous that gets about five feet, fragrant flowers and no mildew. pic. B. 'Rudy Tuttie'

Thank you, begoniaboy............that makes me feel better....yes we are in the heat of Texas....I can't even grow rexes except in the air conditioning with high humidity....

I love that second one, too.......just beautiful pictures....thanks for sharing....

While I have an expert on the site, i bought a begonia that was beautiful I had just bought last Sunday.....begoniacrazii said it had a caudex and treat it almost like a succulent....well, the stem croaked today and is mushy!!! I am soooo mad....I didn't know.....I am going to take cuttings but what would you root them in....

I posted it the other day and now can't find the picture of it....

It was your B. 'Partita' - I've never tried rooting the caudex form at home but we've done them at the botanical gardens. Not sure if this will help but we use a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite kept moist all the time via a misting system. You could try a home version of this but use a dome to keep the moisture in.

B. 'Rudy Tuttie' is so pretty too. I am always whining that I do not have enough humidity for begonias but you do not have high humidity either do you Mike? Yours sure always look so happy!

Thanks, begoniacrazii......I have those plastic mini domes....will try!!!!

Kell,
One of the most famous begonia growers in the world, Rudy Ziesenhenne, opened his nursery in Santa Barbara because for all types of begonia he felt this was the best place to grow begonias. Average temp 74, humidity 60-70%... Looks like begonias like the same weather as humans.
Gail, 2008 Begonia convention in Texas.
Crazii, I now have B. 'Rudy Tuttie' in a bicolor white and pink. I hope to show one at the ABS convention. Never had mildew on my Tutties.
