I am operating on gut instinct, but I am going to plant up all stolons of light variegated episcias today in these larger mini domes..
Hope this works for me with light variegated episcias
You must have a zillion plants by now Gail...would love to see a shot of your entire collection. What do you do with them all? I'm beginning to think yer gonna get into the plant business :))
She really should .... Hey Gail .... I'd be your best customer!
I think I have made a decision....first I have to get to Houston and buy more gro-light stands!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have run out of room completely.
Secondly I may go to the florist who I know so well and see if I can wholesale to them............I can't keep growing this many plants......although I love it.
Here is a table of episcias just because I have no more light stand room......the kitchen is still full of episcias that need care......
There are three chiritas starting to bloom on the tables....and one giant av which is why I don't want to grow standards anymore unless I can get rid of them before they get this big....
Yep, I have pretty much given up on AV's as well, episcias, sinningias and kohlerias for me...AV's are fast falling on my list of favourite plants to grow.
No one has this much room, threegardeners and I care not one thing about growing for show..........in a thousand years maybe I would be interested, but I doubt it!!!!
I can't imagine giving up totally on AV's ... standard or not, I just love them all!
Oh Gail, keep us posted on any business venture you decide on, okay?! If you ever decide to sell on line, let me know, please!
I wanted to show you how I am currently rooting stolons of episcias that I have recently received in trade, etc. I use two plastic dixie cups... the bottom one has four drain holes put in it, then I use a mix of one part perlite, one part vermiculite, and two parts peat. A bit of rooting hormone powder on the tip and plunk it in there... mist to moisten. I then take the second cup, cut to fit inside the first one, and make a little dome.
This is a 'Blue Nile' stolon I received in trade... potted up as described on June 10th. This photo was taken on June 14th...
Great Idea .... Wow! That baby is growing fast!
Yeah, I know! I didn't think I would be able to pull one so small through (not against the baby, or the person who gave it to me). I just didn't think I personally could get them to grow out. I think it's a little luck on my part, the mix and the dome!
Lin, if i didn't live in the country and packing and mailing such a hassle, I would do what you suggested...........But I wouldn't have the time to take care of my plants....nice of you to say such!!!!
Oh yeah, Gail .... I forgot you live way out in the Country and have to drive into town to the post office for your mail! Having lived in the city all my life, I can't imagine not having mail delivered to my house! Sometimes I think I would love living out in the country with a lot of land .... but then again, I am so spoiled .... the mall is only a couple of miles from my house! :) But, I do love it when we can take vacations to the mountains .... aaaaah, such peaceful times!
