This is the part of it that is in containers due to a slab of concrete being just under about one inch of dirt due to when we made the pond.
My newest bed
Wonderful combination of foliage forms and colors! That chartreuse sweet potato "gilds the lily" quite nicely -- it looks like a big golden sun!
Thank you! I thought it turn out well now that it is growing. I sort of threw it tgether when we were planting the bed and discovered the concrete!
I can only imagine that scene... *clunk!* with the shovel... hmmm, a rock... I'll try again a couple inches over... *clunk!* I'd have been so dismayed to discover that concrete slab, but you have a great solution with your container garden!
If that's anything like the perilla I grew a couple of years ago, you might want to deadhead it... it can be a prolific self-sower, yes, even in your 1 inch of soil! I've got them coming up between my concrete pavers. :-)
I'm really enjoying your foliage combos!
It has not bloomed. But I did not know that about it so I will e sure to watch out for blooms...
Does the perilla bloom like the coleus? I ask because I have some also and haven't seen any blooms, whereas most of my coleus are blooming like crazy. I'm forever picking off flowers.
Doggone it, I hit the send button before I was ready to.
YQ, Your new bed is awesome! I love all of those plants you have. Your mail should be arriving any day now with lots of coleus to put in there also.
So what's the creeping plant??
Here's the perilla that has established itself in my garden and is trying to get a toehold on the patio: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/90581/
That "creeping plant" looks a little like Lamium, but the one I have ('Orchid Frost') gets taller than that... The leaves on different varieties have different patterns of green/silver variegation... http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/158/
There are so many varieties of lamium these days. It looks like lamium to me.
Thank ya'll for ID-ing my plant. I have several places that it is growing, and I have some in pots by the pond also. It is a very attrative foliage plant, and I really like that it is hardy. Even in the pots it stays green all winter.
yardqueen, really nice combinations! I believe your Lamium plant is this one: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55026/. I always knew it as Lamiastrum but looks like it's been 'reclassified' as a Lamium.
