I'm amazed she bloomed after the drastic attack of mites she got. This is bleached out a bit by the flash.
Rothkirch with mite damage
Seems you got it thru great, Mary. If you could see my RK you would cry. Poor thing got freezer burn last winter but has managed to put out 1 stalk. I was amazed it got burned for it was under an overhang and touching the house. Then I was amazed it lived.
Lucky you to have it!!!! Can't get it into Oz :-(
I like Rothkirch. She is such a prolific bloomer. Hope you can get rid of the mites. We have a few of them in Iowa too.
My didnt come back at all ! :(
Brugie,
How do you get rid of mites? Bellie
I use several different things so they don't become resistant to any of them. I use an Ortho systemic product if the infestation isn't bad. I use Avid or Floramite next and then if I have to, I bring out the big guns with Forbid. This is the first year I've had spider mites in a while. I've used Neem before, but as hot as it is here, it's pretty touchy to use. I've burned leaves with it before. It has to be sprayed early or late in the day here and with so many brugs, I don't like the fact that it is so time consuming to use. I bought it twice from two different places and one of the bottles smelled so bad that I wasn't sure I would even get the smell off my hands. LOL!
I've got Avid and Forbid. With my bad eyes by the time I notice the infestation it's pretty far along. I really should bring out a magnifying glass every time I go out there.
To make conditions less hospitable for them in our hot dry climate my husband bought me a misting fan, seen in this picture. We're also looking at systems that would be controlled with a timer.
Oh my! What a pretty thing!
Gosh, that fan would be great in a greenhouse too. Your husband is such a nice guy.
I am happy that your Rothkirch is doing good : ) Say, is that fan of yours really spraying water? That was thoughtfull of your husband. Wish we could buy such advances epiquipment here. I use the waterhose with a lawn sprinkler. I am not sure, if it helps the mite problems, but it sure keeps the Brugmansia perked up on the long, hot days.
I just received a hydrofogger from my DH, but haven't had time to install it. I liked the idea of the water mister and fan combo, but our well water has such a high mineral content that the nozzles would plug up in no time.
