above the y cuttings.

Dripping Springs, TX(Zone 8b)

I got to wondering, if a cutting is taken above the y then the plant matures will any cutting taken off of this plant be considered above the y I ask because I have had log cuttings taken from the base of a plant bloom without making a y. or are they just stress blooms.

Great question. I would think that anything above ground, removed from the plant, would be as an above the Y cutting. However, couldn't you get a basal shoot that would again make a trunk and taller plant?
