But I cannot find my black eyed pea seeds. I have a whole bag of dried b.e. peas (that you soak before cooking) would these work and am I a clueless idiot for asking?

If they are fresh, they will do fine. The southern peas have a relatively short life, so if they have been sitting on the pantry shelf for a year or so, germination may be be impaired.
