I am cheating!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I just bought this one a few days ago so I can take no credit. But I wanted to join in the fun. I just love these fancy hibiscus!!

Not as stunning as some but very pretty. Hard to see the pink because the radioactive orange is rather overwhelming the pink.

Very pretty! I like the pink bougie in the first picture too!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I got it at Armstrong's, Liz. That bougie is supposed to be orange!! It was orange when a little pink when I bought it. It is Orange King. My last Orange King did not turn all PINK. LOL. I think the color PINK in my yard is contagious. LOL

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, only for you would an orange bougie turn pink! I can't believe it did that, good thing you like pink! I may have to hit Armstrong on my way home from work sometime this week, last time I was there they didn't have too many hibiscus but I guess they must have got some new ones in. And I could use some new bougies too, the ones I planted last fall haven't shown any signs of life yet so I think that freeze this winter killed them.

What a gorgeous bright orange poof of a bloom!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Don't you love it, Sue? Has my colors for sure.

The hibiscus were pretty well picked over but I was desperate for some hibiscus blooms. LOL I bought 3. One was pretty puny but I was on a mission. I got a bicolored bougie there but its trunk is so skinny. You know where I have been getting my best standard bougies - Target! I picked up a real fat one the other day. It was a Thai hybrid. I can't wait to see it in full bloom.

I got another bougie last month in a nursery in San jose. It was baby pink, just incredible shade of pink I had never seen before. When I got it home it dropped all its leaves, I thought I lost it. But it has recovered. I can't wait to see it bloom. The online search I have done for it shows an orange pink color but when I got it it was totally baby pink.

So the Targets in CA have plants?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I wish hibiscus loved winds in south Texas!!!!!!!!!!!! There are so many wonderful cultivars around here at the nurseries.....sure get tempted!!!!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

ardesia--some Target stores here have garden centers and some don't, the two that are closest to me don't but if I drive ~10-15 miles away there are two or three that do. You might check in your area too, could be the one that's closest to your house that you always go to doesn't have one but there might be another one nearby that does.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

:-)))) Well, we are not exactly a metropolis here. The closest Target is about about 45 minutes away and the next closest is about 1 1/2 hours away. I think it is a west coast thing. I have never seen plants in any of their flyers in the Sunday papers either and they usually print one flyer to cover the whole region.

Time to move to CA and buy plants at Target and eat at the Palace Hotel. LOL

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Great puffy orange!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Gail too bad. You don't have a little sheltered area you could stick a few? I just know some are calling your name.

LOL Alice. I can think of a few reasons to move here and none include going shopping at Target's nursery. I am a creature of habit. I go to certain nurseries in a 3 hour radius for particular kinds of plants. Target is good for standard bougies and 1 gallon cheap coleus. I rarely get anything else there. However, eating at the Palace Hotel is definitely a reason to move here! LOL We can be little PINK princesses there holding court. LOL

Liz, sadly, the new one they opened on Hesperian, has no garden center. I go to the one at Bayfair or the one off 880 by Industrial. Where are they near you that have nurseries? I will google their address and save them on TomTom. That way when I am in that town I can stop by for a looksee.

It really is Amarantha, a big orange ball!

Hi Kell, unfortunately the Dublin and San Ramon Targets don't have garden centers. I was really bummed when I moved down here and found that out--when I lived up in Martinez the closest one was Pleasant Hill and they had one, so I thought all Targets here had them until I moved down here and the two closest ones to me didn't! So now I can either go to Livermore which is the closest one, or I could go back up to Pleasant Hill. I think the Walnut Creek Target may have one too but I'm not sure.

Kell, my Persimmon threw 2 brown flowers recently. Not the pretty chocolaty color either. These flowers were so unattractive I didn't even take a picture. It is covered with buds again and I am praying it is back to the pinky orange that it has always been in the past.

Kell, I like the hibiscus, as well as the Bougainvillea. I have three pinks in my front yard. Excellent bush/shrub/vine/tree. The more it's negelected the more it blooms, gotta love it. I have heard many Targets are closing their nursery section. My local Target's nursery has been reduced to a container and mulch section.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that if I put them in big pots on the east side of the house up against the house, they will be fine............I have 4 there right now and they are doing beautifully...................here are some available at a local nursery............we also have all colors of Bougainvillea....which I have bought

Oh I hope not Gardenlady! I need to go check out the one by Liz's house. But I wonder the future of nurseries as I see houses now are all being built with no land at all. Not even room for a tree.

Oh Jessiegail, I want them too. Esp the double PINK one. Look at all the buds on it too! Just lovely.

What is the name of that orange double. I would buy that one in a second. I love the dark oranges. You can't hijack any thread of mine Trois. I thank you for participating on my thread. And adding such a beautiful photo.

I love it when people share their pics and even other topics on my threads. Makes for a much more interesting read.

I was so late coming back to this thread because I have been out and about. And so tired at night, I get to a few threads on Dave's, usually on the rose forum, and fade. Yesterday I was gone from early in the morning till late, after 9. I went with other Davers to nurseries and to a great garden in such a pretty and empty part of No. Ca. I loved the wide open green spaces, the beautiful vistas of hills all decorated in a tapestry of evergreens. Just such a nice change from where I am.
