Food Aggression in Puppies?????

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi All,

We have a new puppy - a golden retriever named Murphy. He is 12 wks old and we've had him for 4 wks.

I have a something that I don't even know if I should be concerned about or not. We feed Murphy on a 'slow growth' diet. He gets 3 meals a day - 1/2 cup of kibble plus some hard boiled egg. I have noticed that although he doesn't act "starved" in between meals, when we put the food bowl down he inhales his food in about 20 seconds (or less!).

There are no other dogs around to take his food and we don't take it away from him or anything like that. My concern is that he will develop food aggression. I tested him the other day to see what he would do if I did pick his bowl up. When I reached down for the bowl, he starts eating even quicker. He doesn't growl, snap or bite and I can actually pick the bowl up. I am just so afraid he'll become aggressive that I wan tot do whatever I can now to eliminate that possibility.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!
Jeannine
