Hi all! I was not a Hoya Lover until a friend gave me a cutting from her Hoya Carnosa a few years ago. That little cutting is now a six foot plant blooming like crazy! My problem appears to be two other cuttings that I planted in hanging pots about 2 years ago. While they are growing, and have almost caught up with the Hoya Carnosa, they aren't blooming. In fact, they aren't doing much of anything except growing.
Is there a specific age the plants have to be before blooming? For example, the orchid cactus I grow normally won't bloom until they are at least 3 years old. Is it the same with the Hoyas?
How long must I wait?
So much depends on alot of variables. Some people wait years for their H. carnosa to bloom! There is NO telling ... there are early bloomers but I think it is all done with smoke and mirrors!!!
I have had carnosas, and a pubicalyx, that took over 10yrs, but then a carnosa variegata and a compacta that bloomed in less than 3 years - you never know.
I have carnosas less than 6 months old blooming...and another over 4 years old...nada. Go figger!!!
Oh my I have a headache. I may not ever see mine bloom. I have had them at least 2 years and they are quite large but never a bloom. :(
Makshi, that's the way I feel about these two plants of mine. They started out small, but are growing beautifully. I guess the speed with which the Carnosa bloomed spoiled me. OK, I'll just wait and try not to be impatient! Susan
