These images are just now making the rounds of my family email circuit so I've no idea if they've been all over the Internet – apologies if you've all seen them – but they were new to me and delightful. The woman upon whose hands these hummingbirds perch is in a hummingbird migratory zone in Louisiana and she reportedly stood near her feeders for days (weeks?), allowing the birds to become accustomed to her before she put the cup of sugar water in her hands.
Bird in the hand
I can only imagine the thrill of those itty bitty little birds on my hand!! I "rescued" one from inside my house once and had it cupped in my hands till I got it outside, but it was in one big hurry to leave!!!!
Wow!
Amazing shots!
My grandfather used to sit on his front porch with a bag of peanuts in the shell. He'd put a shell in his open palm and the squirrels would eat from it. That was so awesome when I was a young kid!
I learned from that, that with patience, you can have many critters approach or approach them.
Too, I avoid making direct eye contact with the birds and they go on with their business.
