hi...i just received some new ducklings and goslings on friday....one of the ducklings has only one eye...this afternoon my husband and i noticed the good eye (only eye) is swollen and full of gunk....i can get the duckling to a vet tomorrow one way or another i just wanted to know if there is anything i can do tonight....i have him separated from the majority...he/she is in with a gosling that has splayed legs
thanks,
lynda
help/advice with cleaning the eye of a duckling
Tie the goslings legs together and change it every 2-3 weeks
don't put the poor thing down like some poeple do the legs can be fixed.. The duckling on the other hand take a warm washcloth
and wipe away the guck and put eye drops like we use and if the swelling doesn't go down take it in to the vet..
Good Luck and keep us informed on how they are doing..

i wouldn't dream of putting the gosling down...the little one just broke through another bandaid leg brace...he/she is a sweetie
i will get to work with the duckling...i'm glad we got them vs anyone who wanted perfect
the little duckling that died just about broke my heart....i held her almost the entire time she was here...i think both legs were bad and she was about half the size of the other cuyagas...she's burried now
i will keep updates posted & as soon as i find the "thing" used to transfer pictures i'll put some up :-)
thanks for the info!
You are welcome and keep me posted on how they are doing..

i ended up going to vet...took several vets to find one that could help...any way, the duckling is getting an antibiotic for the eye infection which should clear up in 5-6 days....the vet is not optimistic there will be vision in the eye which will leave the duckling blind....he said as long as he can find food he can be happy
i need advice on what to use for bracing the goslings legs....he/she has busted all of the bandaids we tried as well as the medical tape
the thought crossed my mind that maybe a strip of material from panty hose would work?
all info is appreciated!

Thought that you normally used pipe cleaners to make a splint. But that nylon idea sounds good.
Try a acebandige that's what I use for one of my girls leg it stays on better...
Tracey
thanks for the ideas....haven't found any panty hose...it's been a while since i wore any...i know we have pipe cleaners for some crafts...i think we have ace bandages....it just breaks my heart seeing the little one trying to stand....the little gosling is a sweetie along with the 90%+ blind duckling....looks like they are going to be buddies
Sure they are buddys by now....
