This plant is pretty low to the ground, so I put it up on an upside down pot so the blooms won't drag the ground. She was one of those, "I can't wait to bloom" plants. She's a big pretty bloom that gets herself noticed.
Mary
Mountain Magic
One of my favorites to this day. More shade always made her darker for me, too. She smells yummy. Great picture Mary.
Beautiful and color is great.
Congrats Mary,
I can't wait to see mine bloom this year.
I received a small cutting from a kind DGer last November. It made it through the winter. I don't know if the cutting was from above or below the "Y", but I can hardly wait until it starts producing flowers. The blooms are gorgeous.
It's so thrilling to see the first Brug bloom of the season. That one is lovely without a doubt.
I Love mountain magic it is my favorite brug so far. It consistantly out blooms all other brugs I have tried and it is hardier, grows larger and is more mite resistant my hats off to the person who grew this variety. the picture shows mountain magic on the left and painted lady on the right same conditions same age plant but look at the difference.
Gosh, your picture speaks volumes and is beautiful. Love to look at Mtn. Magic plants in bloom. She is just a classy type brug. The hybridizer is Snowhermit.
Mine just started blooming, too. I'll get a few pics tonight. MM is just about my favorite brug ...even if it is pink ;P
How much bloom variation is allowed in a named Brug? I'm referring to the calx and how it to covers the corolla neck. In Heavinscent's photo, the bloom hangs down slightly below the calx exposing the beginning of the neck. The neck doesn't show in the other photos. Is this due to heat? Or just the direction the photo was taken?
What a lovely Brug that is!
That's the way I remember seeing her bloom. Dark and classy. Mine has buds, but is taking her sweet time.
Here in Florida, I've found her tough to root and slow as molasses in January as far as growth rate. I've had her in three different environments and have found she likes being in a big pot under the shade of an enormous Brug Isabella that is now approaching 20' tall.
Despite the influx of new doubles, triples, pink polka dots...whatever; some of the varieties that have been around for a while still manage to delight the eye and captivate the imagination.
My breeding program is now focused upon using pollens from the newer varieties on these old and proven reliables. After wading through the myriad pinks, peaches, pale yellows and whites; I'm tightening up the circle of plants that exhibit striking color and great stamina.
I've found her to bloom darker in shade as well. Would love to try growing her in Florida. LOL! You should try Iowa weather in the winter. Starting cuttings isn't easy then and growing comes to a stop. LOL! Even with the problems she may give us with rooting, growing, etc. in different environments, she's still one of the best US brugs I've found.
I have noticed they don't like cool weather much and they freeze out easier than some of the other varieties. I have to heavily mulch them in winter or they wont come back. I have found it to be easier to just root cuttings and replant then try to coax them out of dormancy.
wow 20' it must be wonderful to live in your zone. We cant get a brug over 8' here without a tall greenhouse to overwinter it in.
It's wonderful until a hurricane comes and levels the place. Been through it twice.
Everything is achieved with the sober realities of life on the planet duly noted and humbly respected...
...after all, nothing of what we tangibly achieve is either going with us, or is indefinite in this place.
Those are gorgeous!! Mine is about to "Y" (thanks so much again, Caren!!). So, hopefully, I'll see a bloom or two this year. :)
You're having a very good day, Carter!
Any day graced by MM blooms could be nothing less!
...just think...right now there's a great mind over at M.I.T. thinking - Gee! Wouldn't it be great if we had scratch and sniff computer monitors!
He has no idea that he may some day be inducted into the Brugmansia Growers Hall of Fame.
:-)
LOL! Ain't it true!!
Very pretty, Carter. That first picture is my favorite.
I'm getting weak in the knees.
Maybe I need some dinner.....
Just kidding... great pics!

Magic Mountain is gorgeous! I just got into brugs last summer (my lonely Jamaican Yellow) and I was so surprised by how well the plant did. I have since started a wish list and MM is on it of course. I'm short on space for too many plants so my wish list and the gorgeous plant photos poster here help me out:)
Woo-hoo Felicia - you're about to be blessed with beauty!
Congratulations, Felicia! You'll have to post a photo of your bud when it opens. I need to live vicariously on MM. Mine is hasn't "Y"ed yet.
Thanks! Too early to get excited though, let's just hope the bud doesn't die off.
I love seeing everyon'e pictures of this one!!
