Wren nest?

Gonzales, LA(Zone 9a)

Do you need to clean the old nest out of your wren nest box. I have several wren houses that were used in the early spring but I don't know if I should clean the old nest out or do they use them again or make new nest. Thanks

I would take it out and let them build a new one.

If they build one on top of the old one it might promote disease etc.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense....

I get wrens all the time in different places in my yard. In a couple of bird houses and especially in my hanging pots. I have a cute round ceramic house they have nested in. I have never had to clean it out. They do it for me. I don't think they like to use the same stuff. I have even seen it cleaned out and then not use it. I don't know if they are using the material for another nest or they just decided to nest somewhere else. I think I read somewhere that the male will come looking for a nesting place then the female comes to approve or disapprove. Maybe that is what happened in this case and she said no way, even though it was a pretty nice place, hanging from the eves in the shade and all.

I have one in my zz plant on my patio! I'm too scared to move it; it already has eggs.
