As seed trading starts to heat up again, I thought this tip might be helpful, especially for those new to DG.
Did you know that you can use the Search feature of DG (in the right-hand column) to find out who has the plants or seeds that you're looking for?
Just put in the common or latin name of the item you're looking for, and here's what you'll get:
1. first is a listing of threads containing the name(s) you're searching for;
2. IF it's listed in the plants database, you'll see the entry(ies) for any and all species;
3. then you'll see a list of everyone who has included it in their journals (if they have a public journal); and finally
4. there's a listing of everybody who has or wants the plant or seeds, making it easy to match up those who have with those who want :0)
For example, here's a search I did on Rudbeckia, since it's a popular trade item right now: http://davesgarden.com/search/index.php?search_text=Rudbeckia&Search.x=39&Search.y=7
(I had no idea we had that many different Rudbeckia species in the database - wow!)
Anyway, maybe I'm just slow to catch on to a feature that everybody else already uses, but this is pretty handy if you're looking for something in particular.
I've even had VERY generous gardeners e-mail me to offer me something they saw in my "wants" list, which is the nicest treat of all! (And another good reason to use the tradelist feature that Dave has created for us, so everyone can see what you're looking for, as well as what you have available.)

GV..... thank you. I was thinking about asking for that feature... I tried it and it's really cool. Do you know if there is a way to sort the columns within there so that all the wanteds are grouped and all the trade/sase are grouped- (rather than scrolling through the whole list)???
This is going to make trading a whole lot easier.

Here's another thought... lets say I have a bunch of xyz seed that I want to get rid of ... only to make room for new stuff :) ... is there a way to do a mailing to those that have the item in there wanted list without having to send a mail to each of them? I don't want this to seem like it would be a mass mailing/spam type of thing... I'm just trying to be proactive. I know that I can post in seed trading too. ..... just a thought.

GV, I love the feature, so please don't misunderstand me. I'm very new to computers, my computer system is little more than a string and a tin can, and with the surging growth of population in DavesGarden, it is getting more difficult by the minute to get anything read or posted. Those of us that have many trade items, and are having that type of difficulty; are best served at the present time to post what they have available in the Seed Trading and Plant Trading Forums directly. One can always bump their post up if necessary. This, at the present time, ensures we are not left out of the game. I will continue to plod along until I can get a "real" computer and will endeavor to accomplish all that I have yet to do....LOL@me.
