I used a combination systemic granule plant food and bug repellent on my roses in May when I planted them, but now I have a ton on beetle type critters on them ggggrrrr what happened? What can I do to salvage them for the rest of the summer? They aren't on ALL the roses.
bugs on my roses HELP!
Jacklynn...........What kind of beetle are you talking about?? Japanese??? try the diatomaceous earth. get garden grade, not pool grade. it will kill them immediately and it won't hurt anything good, like kids, pets, etc. Actually will kill all the bugs ......
When I plant new roses, I never fertilizer till the plant has foliage

how would one apply the diatomaceous earth stuff and where would one purchase it? these beetles are eating my poor rosebush. i'm only finding them in the blooms though, does that sound right?
erika
thanks Deann , and Erika, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to get some gypson moth and jap. beatle killer. They moved on to some of my other plants. They WILL be gone by fall or I'm giving up gardening!!!!! hugs
Jacklynn...........you need to be diligent with the JP beetles....they will eat your garden in no time flat......very destructive.....I typically take a walk around my garden and inspect the flowers, as you never know when you will run across them......I have already found 3 of them on my roses.....so far, that is all I have found....
Deann
greathorse..........apply it with a puffer type dispenser....
Deann
thanks deann i will try that right away.

Deann does diatomaceous earth work on canna's too :( I just went out to the garden and found 2 J.Beatles down inside the canna, their killing it :( DH told me to use 7 dust on it, would that work with out hurting the Canna? I have that on hand, the diatomaceous earth I don't. Can you tell me what stores carry it.
Thanks Connie
Connie
Sevan dust should work just as well, put pick out those beetles if you can, I do it with a pair of tweezers and kill them....I have found 3 so far this year in my roses....
