Does anyone have any extra Echinacea Coneflower seeds?

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi,
Does anyone have a few extra Echinacea coneflower seeds they could trade or share with me for postage?

I have the one that is a pink purplish color and one that is a yellowish gold color. The ones I have are the older varieties. I am expecially looking for Coconut Lime or any of the other new colors I don't have.

Or could someone please tell me where the best place to buy new "intro" seeds such as the Coconut Lime Echinacea would be?

Thanks Dale....... I will see what they have to offer.

Jane,
Many of the new cultivars do not have true seeds or seeds that germinate even. Most of them are propagated vegatatively. I would not spend much money on them. I would be able to save some new ones if you wanted to try them.

Al,

Your right they don't come back from seed the same as the parent. They have to be field grown and divided. A very time consuming and expensive process.

It is an incredible plant, it grows from Winnepeg all the way down to Brownsville, Tx. zone 3-10, the only other plant that I know of that has that range is the daylily. They grow daylillies in Brazil.

That's a beautiful picture.

Al,
What you say makes perfect sense to me. I am just so in love with this flower.
I would love to have a chance to try a few of your new seeds. Let me know when they are available and what you would ask for as trade.

Jane,

The plants in the above photo were bought bare root> http://www.dutchbulbs.com/bulbs/coneflower-mixed/index.html < I have their wholesale catalog. I bought 100 for $125.00 plus shipping. The plants in the photo were in pots, growing up, so I could place them in clients flower beds. I won't be able to collect seed. I will be pulling them out in the fall and if you contact me then I can send you a few bareroot, other wise they will end up at the city compost pile. I will probably end up posting an offer in Nov on the Plant Trading forum. I am sure I will have at least 80 of the 100 survive.

I can't save all the plants I pull, but, these have some vlaue. Right now I have 20 unsold 1 gallons in the yard, but, this is the wrong time of year to be trying to ship a growing plant. Best to ship when they are dormant.

I have quite a few varieties of coneflowers. I can collect some seeds if anyone is interested. I know some varities wont be exact as the parent unless its a root cutting or stem cutting. I'm not such which of the ones I have though.

Heres a pic of my regular purple ones.

I have:
Coneflower Purpea
Coneflower Purpea Magnus
Twilight Coneflower
Harvest Moon Coneflower
Coneflower Palladia/Ribbon Coneflower

Oh, I wanted to see if anyone could identify which type of coneflowers this is. It is a more purple/maroon color than the original coneflower purpea.

Is it new this year? Could be After Midnight or Primadonna Rose.

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Ahhhh..........Angel I'm so jealous.......could I please have a few of your seed?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

I would love to be a seed receipient also. I am sure I could find something around here to trade.

I have been wondering what would grow from the seed... would you end up with a gazillion reverted purples or would they all be varied?

Is it me or does it seem like it takes one coneflower bloom FOREVER to fade and die? I'm waitin impatiently for collecting seeds. How many days does it usually take a bloom to go to seed?

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Angel..................that's what makes them so great.....don't you think?
I don't really know how may days it takes..... but I just wait until their all the way brown and some of the stem has actually turned brown.
Just the way I do............don't mean to imply it's the right way.....only my way.

I have some seed from last year if you would like some of them. DMail me if you are interested.

Frisco, TX

I'm not sure where to post this but its about my coneflower plants so I will start here.

I am having all kinds of problems with my plants. can anyone tell me if they are susceptible to powderly mildew? I have what looks like big white water spots on the leaves and also some on the petals. Today I rubbed it and under neath the leave was brown.

I feel like I'm losing all my favorite plants. The ones in bloom now are dull and faded looking. I think I may water too much so I hope that is all it is.

Anyone have any advice?
