Oh my!!!!! I was hot on the trial of this one last year. First I had to get the name which took me all over the web emailing people esp since it has 2 names. Then I chased down the hybridizer in Vista who took no pity on me. But I could not find a source. Where did you find that beauty, PalmBob? I am so green with envy. I really am. You got a fantastic one too!!

And look at this one also, PalmBob. I saw it in the back greenhouses at the Huntington. I tried to find this one too. Such a beauty. Sometimes I need to remember that I must be happy with at least getting to see some plants in person when I can't have them. You don't always get what you want, but you get what you need. LOL

The "Huntington" plant looks like Vriesea (fosteriana) Vista.

Yes, that is what it was marked. I love it. Have you seen it around? I haven't seen it for sale. Sadly, LOL!
Vista is pretty common, and given it's California roots, should be plentiful out there. I'd look in www.bsi.com for affiliate socities. Most have plant sales/swaps.
You would think but it is not to be found around here. The Huntington had it in their private collection, not even for public view.
I have been looking for Vriesea 'Splendide Vista' also which is from Vista too. Can't find it anywhere. And I make the nursery rounds. LOL
I do know a man that is big in the San Franicsco Bromeliad Society and asked him about them awhile back. Maybe be I should ask again! LOL

Yes, quite different. Vriesea Splendide Vista has the white and pink markings and the Vriesea Splendide is green with dark stripes. There is a nursery in Vista, California who hybridized these. I am sure Vriesea Splendide was used.
