Had another Ornythion Swallowtail emerge yesterday from what I thought were Giant Swallowtail caterpillars I raised a couple of months ago. I still have four more chrysalids so ain't no telling what they'll turn out to be!!! :o)

Very pretty! Love the distinct markings on the wings! :-) Your photos are excellent as always, Cat! Thanks for sharing those with all of us!
Super Cat! That's a really good picture. Ornythion is one fairly rare butterfly here in US. Thank you for posting it. Can't wait to see what's inside the other chrysalids!
:-D
They are rare EVERYWHERE!!!! ..... EXCEPT Cat's backyard! LOL!
Heh heh...going the "I got 'em, uhhuh I got 'em - Woohoo! Did I mention I got 'em dance" :o)
Don't fret...ya'll in Florida get Atala Hairstreaks and we don't...and I have two coonties in my back yard...in the hopes of luring one over!
Cat - No coonties in my backyard ..... are you suggesting I plant some??? LOL!
Yes Becky...so you can attract Atala Hairstreaks and show 'em off :o) You can never have enough larval host plants ya know!!!

Cat - There was a colony of them just south of me in Vero Beach for a short time, but have since died out. Though I am thinking that it IS possible to maybe get them with the right plants. Coonties are very expensive plants compared to other plants. But maybe one or two in my yard might be worth it especially if it does lure some here. :-)
Becky,
I bought two for $15 each from Cyadsandseeds.com - the plants were 2-3 years old. They were in good shape and a decent size. This is a photo from Sep 2006 when I first got them. Will have to take a current photo this week to show you how well they're doing. Now if only those Atala Hairstreaks would hop on the wind and find their way to my yard!!!

That's a good price Cat! They run $30-40 here and look like that one you bought in the photo. Good price!!!
