Can anyone tell me about raising Euryale ferox?

I just got an Euryale at a plant sale and about all anyone said was they get seeds all over your pond and they have thorns. I am in Zone 6 so I assume this will have to be grown as an annual or can it be overwintered somehow. Any advice or suggestions?

if you get seeds all over your pond you'll have tons of people waiting in line for the babies or seeds so don't let that stop you

I didn't know if it was really aggressive or just messy.

I haven't grown it, but I hope you have a large pond, it's cousin to the victoria and gets very large. Here is a link with some info, there are several articles on the euryale on that site.
