Abed full of gloriosas

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

They are once again trying to take over. I will have to thin them out again in a year or so.

I just think their flowers are so beautiful!
Love the color, too.
Something else I must have, I reckon...LOLAM

What a healthy and happy looking stand of gloriosas; you are doing something very right with them.

I found some rhizomes for what are supposed to be pink ones this year. They are only a few inches tall right now; it will be interesting to see what they look like when they bloom.

Aredesia where did you find the pink ones? Rylaff I think I will plant me a gloriosa garden this next year. Those are gorgeous!! I planted several but only 2 came up.

I found them at a booth at a large garden festival in Charleston. One of those booths where they sell Ti logs and Plumeria sticks and other tropicals. I do not remember the name of the company but there were logos from the TV shopping channel on all the merchandise. It will be interesting to see if they really are pink.

That's beautiful. Love the combination of foliage textures and the stone statue too. :) My gloriosas just peeked out of their soil. The largest is now at 5". The month of warm weather in May has really helped. :)

Lisa, those are amazing, as are all your flowers.

Hey Girl!! My sis sure wants you to move closer to her. Then I can come up there and we can hang out together and hit the nurseries in Dothan.

These gloriosas are beautiful! Do you have any hints you can pass along? I am interested in growing these in my garden.

Thanks!

Florida, down here these things are almost like weeds. I do nothing except make sure they are planted near something that they can grab onto since they climb a bit. The multiply easily. I once started with about 10 and when I dug the bed a few years later, there was two or three hundred. Somewhat drought tolerant. The only thing they do not like is to be too wet too long.

beautiful...can't get them to grow for me here to save my life....

Very lovely! I planted a few 2 years ago, and only 1 popped up. This year I was ruthless in reorganizing my garden and I KNOW I sliced something in that area. Now I have 2 vigorous vines and each blooming well. Gardens are like kids, they need tough love to grow best. ^_^

This is blooming for me today. :) I adore these flowers. :)

joegee -

what a beauty! I purchased some seeds recently and am in the middle of pollination. They have little hairs coming out of them right now, so I'm seeing some progress. Hopefully I'll end up with beautiful blooms such as yours!

Bunnie,

This looks like it may be my only bloom from this bulb this year (the other one didn't send up a single shoot.) In your climate I'll bet these go berserk. You'll have PLENTY of lovely flowers. :)

To my eye these are so graceful, and so delicate. To me they're so pretty they almost don't look real. :)

peace,

The unrealistic look of these flowers is what drew me to them too. I hope you are right about me having a lot of them - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Do you have your's growing on any kind of trellis? I've heard that you need to give them some kind of support to grow on as they tend to be viney.
