this is coming off the same plant, two colors!!! Anyone else seen agapanthus do this?
Agapanthus in bloom. Two colors.
Lisa,
I have seed pods also. Please share with me what to do with them. I'm moving back to NC on the 25rh so it looks like I'll never get to see your wonderful garden. Financially, it's just been too hard for me here. But on the good side, I'll be closer to my new grandbaby!
So can I do anything with these pods in the next week? I'm thinking I'll dig up a couple and separate them to take them with me. What do you think?
Thanks for all your help. Of course, I'll still be on DG back in NC.
Barbara
Are you absolutely positive the two different flowers are on the same plant? I would suspect that when the plants were very young there were actually two of them that wound up in the same pot and were just so close together that it's hard to tell it's actually two different plants. I guess it's possible that one's a sport or something, but I think it's more likely that there were just two plants crammed together in the pot when it was planted originally.
Barb, at this point the pods need to remain on theplant.dig it up and pot them in a pot and take them with you. Actually , mine are in a pot because they bloom better when crowded.
I will look again but it does appear that they are coming frm the same bulb. I guess it is possible that two bulbs melded together over time. Will do more investigation and let you know.
Yes here in Liberty, Texas where I work at the school...I took pics as well..mmm...
One of my Agapanthus plants bloomed with two colors this year for the first time. It's always bloomed all blue in the past, ever since I bought it. This year it had both the blue and white blooms. I figured it was probably two separate bulbs side by side too, but it's the first time I've seen both colors in the four years it's been in the ground! And, I had it in a container for a year and a half before finally putting it in the ground and it was blue flowers when in the container too. I have loads of seed pods too and am wondering how to harvest the seed. I would sure like to be able to get some of the seeds before they all fall off or blow away!
Well, I double checked and unless two bulbs have fused together, this is from the same plan.
I'm not going to dig mine up to check! Doesn't matter to me anyway, I like the blue as well as the white flowers!
Rylaff, you got a mutation on your hands.
This year my coleus have been mutating. I have not had this happen in the past. 5 of my plants have grown branches that are different than the branch they started on. One has started to revert. Most interesting.
Here is a photo of the sport of Garnet Robe, it sported into Trailing Rose (this sport has happened in the past and was named), now it is changing back into Garnet Robe.
I've had this same thing happen to a peony bush (white and pink then white to all pink), a Pinguicula that sent up a white flower and a lt blue flower from the same rosette, and also to a Cyclamen persicum which was even weirder because petals were coming out yellow on white plants and then a few months later there were pink petals in and amongst all the white petals and then the plant went back to blooming all white.
