Wow! I never knew there were so many Gorgeous Episcia's! I have three or four small ones that I've gotten in trades and if they do well for me, I will probably end up having an addiction to another plant! :)

That's totally different! Very cool.

So, do all Episcia's do well in a Terrarium Environment? If I were to plant one or two in enclosed glass containers should those containers be kept under grow lights?

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Lin... to answer part of your question, I think all episcias can appreciate the extra humidity of the terrarium environment (but I don't have all mine in terrariums). About the lights, I'll let one of the experts answer that part...

Thanks VA_Wild_Rose! I've been meaning to ask if the small ones I received in trades should be kept under the grow lights or not. I've had them under there or in an East Facing Window. So far so good ... they haven't died on me! :) I am new to Episcia's and Streps! There are some really gorgeous ones out there! I can see how it's very easy to get hooked!

Lin, i grow mine everywhere....under lights, in a window, in terrariums....i think the secret is something someone told me on DG.....take every single stolon that forms and either get rid of it or start a new plant....
Look at this cutting that someone sent me only 3 weeks ago and it is blooming......look at the size of it......the lady who sent it to me takes off all her stolons.
I am totally addicted to them....I have about 20 and 20 more on order.....I am a 'goner' for these...
This is 'Dynamite Dixie'.....

This is the bloom from 'Teddy Bear'

Mine that are grown in terrariums and not under light do better with saran tops on them all the time......I think this is a plant that just likes to get big if we take the stolons off and always be starting new ones.

Beautiful!

I pre-ordered about 15 rooted episcia stolons( and 30 av leaves) from Belisle's this passed winter . I got e-mail confirming all plants and leaves were available for spring shipping but I never recieved anything from them nor have they answered any of the emails I sent since, inquiring about when I should call them with CC info for plants/leaves I ordered.Luckily,I never got to give them my CC info.

Hard to find a source for episcia that has lots of different varieties I wanted, a lot of sources have gone out of business or don't bother to answer e-mails.

Gail ... Those are Beautiful Plants! I Adore the one called 'Limeade' ... sooo pretty!

'Ember Lace' is beautiful! :o) Love the pink! Thanks for telling us that it's doing better in a terrarium. I guess I knew all along they would, but tried to grow them not in a terrarium, anyway. I've had quite a bit of trouble with them, but after seeing yours and all of Gail's and everyone else's, I guess I'll just have to devote an entire terrarium to them! :o) They're just too pretty not to grow.

Gail, the 'Teddy Bear' stolons you sent me are already growing taller! I can't wait to see them bloom!

A really good source is listed under Garden Watchdog under the G
Gary Mi (can't ever spell his last name) (Out of Africa)

*****He hates computers and is the nicest guy in the world....just order the seller's special.....10 for 33.00 and he throws in a free one!!!

Does he do the 10 for $33 on Episcias, too?? I thought that was just for Streps. That is great if it's for either!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No, he does it for the episcias, too............that is how i got started......some of the pics I showed you were from him......he sends good names......that limeade, the bright green one came from him.....

Super! Thank you for posting that, because I never would have realized it was for both. It might say it on the page, but I'm bad to speed-read the fine print. LOL

Well see...here's the problem I have with a lot of on-line business. If you have a webpage and it has a e-mail,I believe it'd your duty as a business person to answer your e-mails. I have a business and I on't ignore my customers.

Whoops...sorry. I've been dealing w/a cell phone company for 6 weeks of frustartion trying to get my phone on which they already have the money for and this week ,the P/O.about a box plants they destory so I'm not a happy camper w/ businesses this week.

well, it all depends on what is important to you as a plant person......I know Gary hates the computer and only answers his emails after he gets off work at night..........usually from 10:00pm to 1 in the morning.....I can't begrudge such a superb growing without help...............I will gladly wait for him to answer an email ......and not have a phone.....
