Just thought I'd jump out here and show how mine are doing. I am no professional at this so don't laugh.
update on my DL cuttings
They look good, how long have you had them? I agree that finlaysonii looks a bit peaked, like water is not getting from the roots to the leaves. It may get better, though. I have a vitellinoides that has had the same struggles, I lost half of it in the early spring, I let it get too dry and then think I overwatered. But now it is on the upside again, just put out 2 new leaves, so I have hope. So should you!
Everything else looks very healthy. I know it seems like they will never grow but they will - here is my obovata that I started from cuttings last spring.
That looks really good. I hope to get mine there one day. I've enjoyed growing these. I got some from the 06 fall order from David Liddle and some from this spring's order. A few from the spring order have grown more than some from the fall. I hope someone will give me some advice on the Finlaysonii. I love the big leaves and hope to not lose it.
Well, I repotted my vitellinoides and tried to be more careful about watering, both over and under. It was iffy for a while and then suddenly it put out a vine...but before the other half of it died it had two long vines, both getting new leaves, so who knows. It can be up and down with some cuttings, some have a few bad times before they get established, and some just are not meant to make it. Mine still isn't out of the woods, and it is about a year old now. It probably won't be for a while, but repotting helped.
Have you over or underwatered? Does it have roots yet? Has there been any new growth? Alot of times I hear advice to put the entire plant in a plastic bag or cover it with something clear (small aquarium) that will give it extra humidity. I have never tried it, but I do mist alot. Maybe someone here will have some advice.
BTW...your H. vitellina is what others call H. fuscomarginata. There are two camps on this name...just so that you are aware it is a 'dual personality'.
Good gracious Carol, I'm having a hard enough time learning how to spell H. Vitellina and some of the others. I don't even think I can pronounce that one. I will make a note that Vitellina is aka fusco margarita :) Seriously - thanks for the information. I will note the back of the tag.
fusco margarita? Cute! It was a proud day for me when I could correctly spell "nummularioides" without looking it up. I am still not sure I know how to say it!
Your cuttings from David look great! I swear, some Hoyas just sit and do nothing for what feels like forever. Then suddenly they will be out of control.
You may want do a root check on the cut that looks puny. Often times it is because the cut has not rooted or is rotting. If that is the case, you can re-cut the stem until you see live material or sap running.
Way to grow! You obviously have the rooting down!

Thanks, I did pull it and check. there are roots. But I think it could be a little drier so I put it in a pot that woil dry out a little faster. Thanks all!
They DO (cuttings) just sit around existing, don't they? Last year I started quite a few cuttings, and though some put out new growth immediately, most decided to wait till the past month or so to show signs of life. I don't know if it is the beer formula or just the timing for them, but it is exciting to see some action, thats for sure!
I swear a lot has to do with when you cut/root the cuttings...some plants seem to be more of a challenge when you are aren't on 'their' schedule!
I will say that the ones I got this spring had more to root quickly that the ones I got in the fall last year.
Meltn, I just wanted to let you know I took your advice and cut back the 2 cuttings that were not doing so good. I had to cut them back so far that I only have about an inch of "vine" and then the leaf branching out. That's how far I had to go before I saw sap running. I could not believe it. I was like, no way is this gonna live but I tried any way. I put what was left in water with a little SuperThrive about a week ago. Would you believe I have roots ?!? I'm so glad.

I have few pubicalyx plants that I just repotted with very very old vines still intact - I couldn't bear to cut them, even though they had lost their leaves. I took some cuttings from the old growth and potted them up just for the heck of it, even though they were old and typically you wait forever for growth from old cuttings, and some vines I just left attached to the plant. Not only are the cuttings showing tons of new growth, but the old vines on the plant are also sprouting new leaves at the old nodes. It is like the plant is filling itself out again.
I am so happy, this was one of my oldest and most favorite plants, I thought it would never recover.
Good for you Bhavana34! Always a good feeling when you "save" a plant
yes and a lesson to anyone who thinks old vines that lose their leaves are no good anymore - it may take a while, but leaves come back on some varieties!
