other peoples' mini sinns

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I have more work to do than hours in a week and I'm also a little bored so here are some photos of other people's mini sinningias. These are not new pics so you may have seen them before.

This first one is Scarlet Sunset growing at the US Botanic Garden in DC.

Beautiful pics.Key!
Thanks for breaking "my" boredom with your pics.

My lil sinningia is blooming and the lil toot is blooming different everytime it blooms...lol
So what the heck gives with it???

I took top cuttings of ONE plant & have had at least three different blooms from it.
One very rosey reddish pink
One very pale pink with yellowish throat
And the lastest is a light pink almost white with a star shape fushia colored throat

So what's up with that???

Lol!

I have no idea! Aren't cuttings supposed to bloom true? I've mostly only grown them from seed.

I really like the ones like high voltage - pack a LOT of color!

Well... leave it to me to come up with the weird plants...I still have the chimera variegated leafed sport of Rob's Willawong...it finally bloomed & it was pink, too. Very pretty..I took a variegated leaf & it gave regular green leaf babies.:( I was hoping they would be variegated...so it's just a fluke but a pretty one.

Yes, I really like the deeper tones too..when they are small plants it makes the flowers really stand out especially in a watery terrarium..lol

Oh, I just love that one called Cherry Ella x Cherry Chips ... they are such pretty plants! Pink has always been one of my favorite colors since I was a little girl, so I am always attracted to flowers in that color range, but am really beginning to love yellow flowers too!

Someday, hubby and I hope to make a trip to D.C. - my Mom was born and raised there and I haven't been since I was about 5 years old. Hubby, being in Aviation wants to go to Air & Space Museum .... me, I want to go to the USBG!

Thanks for sharing your pic's, Key!

Keyring... the first two photos... are those in the base of the trees outside the restrooms? I saw those there last year, and kept walking back to them and admiring (drooling) over them. That's when I first atarted looking at streps and sinns on-line.

I need to get back up there and admire (drool) some more....

Thanks, Keyring for the show....you and jannich love tiny plants more than anyone I know!!!! I have some of the really tiny ones that I am going to send to jannich whenever I catch up. I love the small plants but not those the size of a quarter....those go to jannich (LOL)

Beautiful, I love the pictures KI. And my want list gets longer and longer and longer!LOL. I planted Doll baby seeds almost 3 months ago and not a sprout yet.

LOL Gail.

Too pretty, Ki! 'Scarlet Sunset' and 'High Voltage' are both super bright. Very eye-catching - I like that. My 'Flair' is breaking dormancy (took long enough). Sure hope it blooms as nicely as that one.

MsC, I took top cuttings of 'Amizade', so now you've got me to wondering how it will bloom. I just assumed they'd bloom the same as mom. What fun to wait and see what will happen! :o)

Yes, those Doll Baby (Doll-baby? Doll-Baby?) and April Snow are near the bathrooms. Did you notice the plant above it? The Sinns are planted among the roots of an Anthurium eggersii. Pic attached....

The others at the USBG were on a little window ledge (between the courtyard and the gh). You would probably miss them if you were heading to the courtyard, but going the other way they are a nice display.

The USBG has a bunch of gessies upstairs "on the rail" so don't miss that section if you visit.

Yep... that's the display I remember. I had a notebook with me that day, and was taking notes on the things I liked (names, etc.) and I kept coming back to this display, because I was so fascinated with hoe they were growing them with the larger plant. I was giving me ideas that I can't fulfill at this time!

*Those* are some roots, Ki! LOL What are they feeding that thing??
