Miners Claim

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

A patented brug. This one died back to it's roots but has come back to life. Frosty Pink type bloom.

I've seen this one on eBay going for $9.95

It's a slow grower, but the foliage is nice.

Hey Mary,

Your Miners Claim looks real good, especially when compared to mine!! LOL I bought mine from Select Seeds last year. About lost it over the winter and now that it is outside it still is not doing much better, maybe 4 - 5 inches tall. :( I might need to give mine a little more sun and see what happens.

Are those zinnias one of the Profusion series? Normally I just under plant with impatients, but this year I added Zinnia Profusion 'Fire' and Pony Tail grass to the under plantings. I can't wait to see what the under planting looks like when they all fill out. The pony tail grass is having a rough go of it, the dogs like to nibble on it. LOL

I love the foliage.

Mine is very small, I got it on ebay, this is my 2nd one the frist one from select seeds died within a week....

I ordered Miner's Claim last year from Select Seeds and planted it in a new flowerbed. It sat there all summer and never grew an inch. In fact, I think it was smaller at the end of summer than when I planted it. It started looking sick, so I dug it up and put it in a pot. It promptly died. I ordered another one in early spring, but it is only about 4 in. tall and has lost all but one leaf. I just got another one of Ebay, and it is at least 12 in. or so. I would like to know the secret to growing this variety, as I love the foliage, but sure haven't had much luck so far.

Mine is growing in a 15" pot. It didn't seem to like direct sunlight (Here in central Texas). Even morning sunlight seemed to damage the parts of the leaves that lacked chlorophyll. I have it in a shade house that allows about 70 - 80% of the light through. It grows slower than my Maya, but that is expected given that there is so much chlorophyll missing from the leaves. It bloomed last year. My DH lowered the thermostat in the greenhouse during the winter without telling me. As a result, my Miner's Claim died down to a 6" stub. It's come back, but it will be a while before it forms "Y"s again.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

I love the variegation in the brug but I have to say that with my problems trying to grow a peaches and cream which is dead now and my snowbank that looks icky every year but comes back for more ickyness...lol...I dont think this variegated brug would be for me...I get so attached and then they dissapoint me.my mayas look wonderful though....great pic, Mary....didnt you say last year that you keep it around because your hubby loves it?..teehee...Judy
