Looking for red blood grass (i think that's it's name). I can do postage only as this is my first summer at the new house (1910 new).'
Kathy
CLOSED: wanted: red blood grass
It's called Japanese blood grass. Sorry, but mine got pulled up by DH, while it was dormant. He thought it was dead....
Kathy, I have some J. Blood grass I can send you. How much do you want?
LMK,
Donna
Would love it Donna. Haven't been in contact with you in years! Hope you're doing well. I understand it spreads quickly, right? Do you want to do a flat rate box and stuff it full, lol? I can paypal you the postage and added fees. Let me know.
I still have a plant you sent me years ago, it has long green leaves, and is a huge bulb, but it has never flowered. The plant is beautiful but I don't know what it is. Any idea?
Let me know about the postage.

Hey Kathy,
Oh, that's right...we did the mystery plant trade a few years ago, right? The plant you are referring to is probably a Spider Lily http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/789/index.html
I had several at that time and was separating them. I hope it blooms for you this year. :-)
I will did up what I have available for you and see what it weighs and let you know about the postage when I mail it. It will probably be tomorrow.
I'm glad I can share more of my plants with you.
Donna
That's the plant. I hope it's warm enough here for it to bloom. That secret trade was fun. If I knew how to organize one I would. I loved it. I may look back for those threads and see if I could figure it out. Make better, clear rules so it's a fair process.
Let me know about the postage. If you want Rose of Sharon or Pussy Willow let me know.
Kathy
Kathy,
Darn...I just pulled up BAGS of Jap. B G, but it's all at the town dump by now! I didn't think many people liked it. It's supposed to be invasive, but I don't care...I love the look. If you still need more next year about May, let me know and I'll send bunches for postage.
Connie
Oh gosh Connie, you better check here before trashing any plant - one mans trash is anothers' treasure - or something like that. Thanks -
Kathy
Donna sent me some Blood Grass over a year ago. Near the end of the summer, it really kicked in and grew and so red, I loved it. It died back of course for the winter and now it's only just now started to come back for the summer.
My point, It seems to be behaving itself down here in zone 8b.
Donna, I think of you everytime I look at it!
Molly
:^)))
Hi Molly, don't you just love the dark red with the green in it? That's why I love it too. It isn't invasive out here, but it will travel slowly and then you can just keep it where you want it. This is when I like to share with others, when it's time to cut it back. lol
Kathy, your box is on it's way. Sent it out today and it is FULL !!!!!! I did send it Flat Rate.
Donna
Donna, I liked it so much I used a picture of it on one of my web pages, blown up.
Yep, I love that blood red!

:^)))
Connie, that is stunning! Donna, I can't wait. I'll send you postage Monday! Thanks girl. Like I said, I still have the trade we did years ago. You're wonderful.
Kathy
Connie, that is simply beautiful!!! What are those tall thingys?
CJ,
The purple things are Cordylines (SP?). It's amazing that when I bought them last summer (in June) they were 15 inches tall. They have grown that much in one year!
Also, we had that ice storm that you had too....and the leaves were all damaged horribly, but all 12 of them made it. I almost tore out the plants bc of the ugly leaves. Then after new growth was in, I peeled off the old leaves (just like you would an artichoke, from the bottom up!) and it left a beautiful "trunk" that was horizontally striped purple and white! Now, multi heads are sprouting from the base, so it must be okay with how I treated it!! :)
Thanks for the compliments, all. I LOVE gardening..even weeding!!
Ok, Connie! The picture pushed me over the edge...Lovely! The next time you're pulling up the JBG, could you let me know? Sans cat, though;)))
Bev
Connie,
That garden looks terrific. The gold and rusty colors in plunts pay very nice agains the stone. Great job!
The JBG ties the purple/red to green so nicely.
Thanks! I will let people know in a thread next year when I'm about to cull the strays! How long will the grass stay alive if mailed? Does one have to send in a plastic bag with water? Wet paper towels?
Connie, I just sent out 3 boxes full of Blood grass, one of which has been received already by shihtzumom. She said they arrived in good condition.
I took handfulls at a time and rinsed all the soil off and then wrapped the roots in paper towels and then wet it down. I then wrapped it in plastic wrap and taped it closed along the top of the wrap close to the stems. It was like it's own little enclosed pot. You do have to send Priority Mail too.
Hope that helped,
Donna
Donna,
Yes, thanks ever so much! I would not have thought about washing the soil off, but I"m sure the package smelled so much better when opened! :) (Not that I don't love the smell of fresh soil when I rip up a weed...but you know what I mean!)
Connie
Connie,
I sure will be watching for your posts on extra JBG next year. Even though it's only marginal in my zone,
I saw it grow well along the foundation, and it's stunning!
Donna's blood grass was excellent - healthy, well wrapped and living in Va all the way from CA.
