Hey guys,
I have pink and purple porterweed. They are S-T-R-A-G-G-L-Y. Any pointers on making them full and luscious bushes? I have been very hesitant to cut off the flower shafts but will do if it makes a healthier plant.

We grow them @ the Farm. Yes, cutting them back will make them more bushy. Flush out as my boss says.
Cut them now & they should be ready by the swap. lol
Seriously, if you cut them back, I would cut enough so you could try to root the cuttings. But then I'm always trying to root something.
My coral one is starting to bloom and is straggly too. Just hate to cut it back, maybe after it blooms a while and the novelty of it wears off lol
Thanks, Smockette!
I'm with ya, fly - hate to do it but, mine looks so bad.
I have several plants that came out of the GH. I should have given them a haircut then but I always hate to cause them anymore stress than necessary. Now, like ya'll's, they are starggy!
My greggiis, for example, have had a spirt of blooming & they are over do for a haircut so they will be nice, say next month.
My greggii's need a hair cut too. I've never pruned them. Got any tips?
Lot's of new cuttings to make!
Well, I need to look @ them again but I think they are about 16" tall. Bottom 4-6" is only stalk. So I was thinking about cutting it back about 6". That still leaves stalk & 4-6" for it to thicken up & bloom on & the cuttings to try & pot up.
How does that sound?
That sounds good to me!
Heidi told me I could cut them so I'm going to try it. What are you planning on putting your cuttings in? Type of soil? Vermiculite? I never know which one to use for what.
I've been using an equal mix of potting soil, compost and perlite. It seems to be working out okay.
