Flooding again.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Y'all are absolutely not gonna' believe this! It's raining cats and dogs again over here at my house. I knew it was time for it to flood because this weekend I replanted that flower bed that's washed away four times this year already. I think it must be on top of an old Indian burial ground that was dedicated to the Rain Gods! I can certainly tell you how to end a drought, come put new plants in my street side bed. It's a sure thing they'll wash away within a matter of days! I'm down about four hundred bucks of washed away plants in this one spot so far. I swear I'm gonna' keep planting until they stick. (Sounds kinda' Scarlett O'Hara, doesn't it?)

Did you find the big rocks that were mentioned last time? Oh, so sorry to be saying "last time". Maybe it won't be as bad and won't come into your yard. Will pray so.

I've been out in my yard since about 6. I keep looking up when I hear all that thunder but know it is somewhere south, like Houston! lol
Now, I know exactly where it is! It's @ your house!!!
We are going to have to figure out some plants that won't wash away everytime your street floods!!!
:~)

Yipeeee! They didn't wash away this time. Maybe if they can stay there for more than a week before the next flood, they'll have enough root system to hold 'em in place. I'm an eternal optimist!

They always say plant some sage don't they? I've never had one die yet!

Crowelli, maybe if you put a small rock or a piece of brick on both sides of each plant it will help to hold them down with the excessive rain, and the rocks keep the soil cool and hold moisture later on, so that might help all the way around..

Frostweed, I'd decided to do something like that. We're going to buy at least one large boulder and put at the edge of the bed to keep idiots from driving over own lawn and beds when the street floods. I'm going to put some LA Iris in the bed since the ocassional water over them won't hurt them. I had thought of putting chicken wire over them to hold them in place, but rocks would likely work even better. Thanks for that idea. For now, it has pentas in it until time to divide the iris.
